NATIONALLY KNOWN SPORT PSYCHOLOGIST MOVES HIS PRACTICE TO HILTON HEAD
“Sport Psychology of Hilton Head” is a new business on the Island, but the practice of sport psychology is not new to Dr. Tom Dorsel, Ph.D., the company’s Founder and Director.
During his 35-year career in Sport Psychology, Dr. Dorsel has appeared ten times on ESPN’s “Inside the PGA Tour;” published three books, the latest being “GOLF: The Mental Game;” and authored over 100 columns for Golf Illustrated, GOLF Magazine, Golf Digest and GOLFWEEK. His clients have included teams, coaches and players, some of whom have made it to the NCAA, the PGA Tour, Wimbledon and World competitions.
Beyond golf, Dorsel has also been a sport psychology consultant to the University of Notre Dame working with all 24 teams in the University’s athletic department. “I knew the major sports when I arrived on campus,” he smiled, “but it was a challenge to confront unfamiliar sports like fencing and lacrosse. So, what did I do? Well, I asked the players to teach me the sport, I taught them the psychology, and between us we put together some pretty impressive performances.”
“Sport Psychology of Hilton Head” offers assessment and consultation, playing lessons, group presentations and special hands-on demonstrations to individuals, sport academies, athletic departments, country clubs and resorts, and even to businesses and professional organizations. As one of his students once exclaimed, “These concepts and skills are not just about sports – they are about life, itself!”
According to Dr. Tom, “My focus is applied and practical. Clients want things they can immediately take to the course, the court, the field, the track, the stage or whatever. I give them useful things to work with from the very first visit.”
