Prospect, Kentucky – Hunting Creek Country Club, located just outside of Louisville in historic Prospect, Kentucky, recently unveiled its newly renovated clubhouse. Crews began construction work in August 2019 and completed the renovation project in early June. Hubbuch & Company, a Louisville-based, multi-disciplined architecture and interior design firm, was the architect and provided interior design direction, and Sullivan Cozart was the general contractor.
The new 25,000 square-foot clubhouse includes a completely updated lobby, golf shop, a fireside lounge area as well as new dining options at The Grille 64 and the Partridge Lounge. In addition, newly expanded outdoor social venues include a new bar area, increased seating and fire pits. Due to local COVID-19 restrictions, the club’s new restaurant venues are open to limited capacity dining.
The Grille 64 is a new family dining option featuring an open display pizza kitchen and offers views of the outdoor patio seating area and 18th green. Hunting Creek Country Club has multiple connections to the number 64, hence the new Grille 64 name. The club originally opened on July 4, 1964 and the club’s first major event was an exhibition match between then PGA TOUR professionals Ken Venturi and Louisville native, Bobby Nichols. Venturi shot a course record 64 and Nichols posted a 70. Earlier that summer, Venturi won the 1964 U.S. Open at and Nichols won the 1964 PGA Championship. On May 22, 2019 Kentucky Country Day High School golfer and member, Michael McAdams posted a 64 to tie Venturi’s longstanding record.
The new Partridge Lounge features a beautiful cathedral ceiling with exposed wood beams, and a new octagon-shaped bar with seating for 80-plus. Outside of the Partridge Lounge, a new wrap-around patio provides an outdoor dining option while overlooking the 18th green. The Partridge Lounge is named in honor of the partridge that appears in the club’s logo.
“All in all, the renovation project has gone quite well and the results are amazing,” said Hunting Creek Country Club’s Board of Directors President, Tom Sanders. “In less than one year, we have transformed our clubhouse structure from a tired and dated facility to a showcase. And in less than two years we have transitioned our entire club, from one in decline to one on the move. This would not have been possible without the support and passion of our membership. We are moving in a great direction!”
Additional club amenities improved during the clubhouse renovation include a newly designed golf pro shop, Fireside and Hunting Creek Rooms and 24-hour accessible fitness center. In May of 2019, Hunting Creek unveiled a new junior Olympic-sized pool.
“It is a remarkable and exciting time for Hunting Creek with the new clubhouse opening,” said Zeke Larson, general manager, Hunting Creek Country Club. “I truly believe that the improvements to the clubhouse, coupled with new dining options and a renewed focus on the member experience, will render Hunting Creek ‘the place to be in Louisville’ and present unparalleled offerings.”

About Hunting Creek Country Club
Founded on July 4, 1964, Hunting Creek Country Club is set among the rolling hills of Kentucky on a bluff south of the Ohio River. The club offers a host of year-round amenities, including a 7,157-yard golf course originally designed by club member Ben Wihry. Holt Golf Design led a complete tee-to-green course renovation that was completed in 2010. The renovation focused on improving the routing and updating hazard locations and green slopes to accommodate the advancements in technology and golf equipment. Throughout its history, the course has hosted nearly every major tournament in the state, including the Kentucky Amateur and the Kentucky Open. In addition to championship-caliber golf, Hunting Creek also features seven tennis courts, including six clay and one hard court; a beautiful new swimming pool complex with adult and kiddie pools; and a social calendar filled with year-round fun events and activities for the entire family.
Hunting Creek got its name from the narrow creek that traverses the 16th fairway. The creek originally had no name when golf course architect Ben Wihry and his partner Campbell Miller looked at it on a surveyor’s map. Miller, a history buff, suggested naming it Hunting Creek after the two streams – Little Hunting Creek and Great Hunting Creek – on George Washington’s Mt. Vernon property in Virginia. It was later adopted as the club’s name.
