The legendary social and city club has redefined luxury and hospitality in San Diego for more than 100 years
SAN DIEGO, CA – Invited, the largest owner and operator of membership clubs in North America with more than 170 properties, is pleased to announce the beginning of a comprehensive reinvestment campaign at the legendary University Club San Diego.
Located at the top of the Symphony Towers, University Club San Diego is the business and social center of San Diego’s professional elites and has always been a place of distinction, a gathering for the city’s most discerning minds, and has provided unparalleled hospitality to members and their guests since 1909. Symphony Towers houses Copley Symphony Hall at ground level, with a cross-section of the most prestigious business firms of San Diego in between.
Having consistently invested millions into its portfolio renovations, Invited is committing $2 million to reimagining the University Club San Diego, which will include extensive renovations to modernize its offerings and reimagine the dining experience, all while capitalizing on the club’s rich history and brand legacy and introducing an elevated appeal and member experience. Renovations start late spring and the club will remain open during the construction.
As part of the club reimagination, Chef Frankie Becerra – the Club’s Executive Chef and Invited’ Chef of the Year nominee in 2024 – and Joe Bruner, the winner of the Invited’ Tournament of Cocktails in 2023, will unveil a new sophisticated dining and cocktail experience. The new design will pay homage to the club’s storied past while embracing the future.
“The legendary University Club San Diego has been a staple in the city community for more than a century and the transformation represents a significant milestone for our future,” said Brian Lee, University Club San Diego General Manager who was named by the San Diego Business Journal as One of the Most Influential People in 2024. “The club revival and reimagination promises to infuse new energy into every aspect of member experience and we look forward to having our esteemed members and guests rediscover the club’s unparalleled experience.”
Invited portfolio of 20+ City Clubs provides an elevated, social-forward membership experience in urban environments, serving as a hub for urban explorers, travelers and tastemakers.
