NCAA Championship coach will bring focus on younger player development
BUFFALO, N.Y., April 27, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — OnCore Golf, a leading golf ball innovator and producers of a suite of high performance, best in class golf balls, is very pleased to welcome John Geiberger to its team as Senior Advisor and Player Ambassador. Geiberger, who has been assisting the company for several years now, is taking on a significant new role advising the organization on a wide range of subjects including its search for young, up and coming talent to play OnCore’s award winning ELIXR tour ball and developing relationships with collegiate golf programs throughout the county.
“Expanding our presence within college athletics is a natural step for OnCore, as we continue to shake up the golf industry with our proprietary technology,” said Steve Coulton, Vice President and co-founder of OnCore. “John brings exceptional expertise to our team as well as excellent relationships with professional and amateur players. The technology needs to see the light of day on a collegiate, amateur and professional level and John will make that happen.”
“The OnCore team, the corporate culture, and the technology they have incorporated into their golf balls has thoroughly impressed me and I am thrilled to be working with them,” said Geiberger. “I have spent years playing every ball in the world but have never played anything like the ELIXR. There isn’t a shot on the course I would rather have another ball in my bag for. Hot off the tee, soft around the greens and unmatched into the wind. My father, Mr. 59, has fallen in love with it saying that it’s the most complete ball he has ever played.”
The widely-known Geiberger led Pepperdine University to the 1997 NCAA title and amassed 10 West Coast Conference Championships (WCC) in his career. His teams appeared in the NCAA Regionals 14 times (including a run of 13 straight appearances between 1999 and 2011) and qualified for the NCAA Championships on six occasions. They had a streak of seven WCC titles in a row from 1999-2005 and last won the 2010 title. Pepperdine also captured 21 tournament titles, produced GCAA All-Americans 14 times and had 10 GCAA All-American Scholars under Geiberger’s watch. Additionally, he coached two Byron Nelson award winners Jason Allred (WEB.com) and Michael Putnam (PGA Tour). The award is based on performance, academics, sportsmanship and character in honor of Byron Nelson. Geiberger is an active member of the Golf Coaches Association of America and served as chairman of the All-American Committee.
A three-year letter winner at Pepperdine from 1989-91, Geiberger earned All-WCC accolades in 1990 and 1991. From 1991 to 1996 he caddied on the PGA Senior Champions Tour for his father, Al Geiberger, and teamed with him for seven wins.
“I’m exceptionally proud to have “Johnny” officially become part of Team OnCore,” commented Keith Blakely, OnCore’s Chairman and CEO. “We’re focused on creating an extended family of individuals who love the game of golf, who appreciate the lessons it can impart regarding the value of hard work, integrity, and respect, on and off the golf course, and who value relationships. Johnny is a perfect example of that type of individual and I look forward to working closely with him in the coming years.”
