Scottsdale, Ariz. – Kapolei Golf Club in Kapolei, Hawaii on the island of Oahu, is pleased to welcome Gordy Walker as the club’s new general manager. As general manager, Walker will oversee golf operations, agronomy, sales and marketing, food & beverage and facilities maintenance operations for the 18-hole daily-fee facility.
Walker has 25-plus years of golf industry experience having worked at many of the top golf facilities in the world, including: The Pebble Beach Company in Calif.; Kapalua Golf on Maui; Sherwood Country Club in Los Angeles; Ojai Valley Inn & Spa in Ojai, Calif.; and The Club at Hokuli’a on Hawaii island. Prior to his arrival at Kapolei, Walker served as the general manager and chief operating officer for The Tradition at Wolong Valley, a private residential golf club in Chengdu, China. For the last seven years, Walker has lived and worked in China.
“I have been fortunate to work at some of the finest golf properties around the world,” said Walker. “Kapolei’s customer experience, course conditions, facilities and amenities are best-in-class. Kapolei ownership’s continued commitment to excellence is steadfast and I am truly grateful to lead the team by serving our resident, domestic and international tourist markets with a world-class golf experience.”
Walker has been an active member of the PGA of America since 1998, and is a member of the Club Management Association of America. He also has a sound understanding of golf course agronomy best practices, as he carries an Advance Turf-Grass Management Certificate from Ohio State University.
“We are fortunate to have Gordy leading the golf and club operations at Kapolei,” said Alex Nakajima, operations leader, Troon. “His well-rounded skillset leading both resort, public and private golf facilities, and keen focus on delivering exceptional guest experiences, will help us enhance an already fantastic property.”
Troon Golf, the resort and daily-fee club operations division of Troon, began managing Kapolei Golf Club earlier this year. For more information on Kapolei Golf Club, visit www.kapoleigolf.com or call 808-674-2227.
