Kathy Whitworth, the world’s winningest golfer, has created a non-profit to support her local community
Fort Worth, TX – After 23 years of a successful junior girls golf championship, the Kathy Whitworth Invitational Junior Girls Championship founders and Kathy Whitworth have established a non-profit foundation to further invest in junior girls golf and the local North Texas community.
The founding Board of Directors: Kathy Whitworth (Chairwoman), Bettye Odle (President), Tammy Walton (Vice President), Laura Bley (Treasurer), Phyllis Kwedar (Secretary), Hallie Vasseur, Cindy Adams, Chandra Geren Thomas, and Cathy Harbin.
“Being involved with and the namesake for the Kathy Whitworth Invitational has been a wonderful experience and is very special to me,” said Ms. Whitworth. “Not only has the tournament been an incredible competition for some of the best junior girl golfers in the world, but it’s also benefited local charities doing great work in our community. I’m humbled that we are taking this to the next level through a Foundation, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.”
The annual tournament takes place every spring at Mira Vista Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. Young women from all over the world apply to play in the invitational, creating a competitive field that has seen some of the LPGA’s top young golfers.
“Kathy Whitworth has left a wonderful mark on golf, starting with being the winningest golf professional of all time and moving into giving back to young people and local communities through golf,” said Cathy Harbin, PGA Master Professional and Board member. “The Kathy Whitworth Foundation gives structure to her goals and solidifies her vision of making a positive difference in the lives of many.”

Established in 1999, the Kathy Whitworth Invitational Junior Girls Championship draws some of the best junior girl golfers in the world to Fort Worth each spring. Since its inception, the tournament has been conducted in concert with the ideals of the USGA: to promote love of the game while building confidence, character, leadership, sportsmanship and responsibility. Tournament entry acceptance is based on playing ability and merit. Many Kathy Whitworth Invitational alumnae have played in college and the LPGA, including Paula Creamer, Morgan Pressel, Nelly Korda, Jessica Korda, Christina Kim, Jane Rah, Brittany Lang, Rachel Heck and many more.
