RESURGENCE FOR FORMER MASTERS CHAMP
Silently climbing his way back into the form he had when he won his first major at the Masters in 2013, the KBS player came in two strokes behind the leader at 17-under, at last weeks the Memorial Tournament held at Muirfield Village. The score which would have won the tournament the past eight times wasn’t quite enough, but the progress of his golf game can’t go unnoticed. The 13x PGA Tour winner continues to make strides in his game, including this latest performance that shows the progress he’s made in the last year, as compared to the last in which he looked lost and frustrated out on the course. Ranked 61st in the Official World Golf Rankings and heading into the 2018 U.S. Open, the player did not qualify on his own and had to enter a 36-hole qualifier prior to the tournament for a chance to participate in the years second major. He made it through but ultimately missed the cut. From there though, a flip switched and change was coming for the better.
Switching back into KBS Shafts late last year after leaving for a period of time, the player has found comfort again in his game. Since the 2018 PGA Championship the player has had five Top-10 finishes in 2019, including multiple runner-up finishes. He is now ranked 17th in the World, and is in the Top-25 of every scoring category in 2019, including seventh in strokes gained tee to green – highlighting his strong iron play. A resurgence is the best word to describe his game right now, and heading into this years U.S. Open he has a fresh new outlook and belief he can win. His last win came in 2016, but his form shows he’s ready for that next big win.
