After a close final round, KBS found itself in 1st and 2nd place at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. The winner had KBS Tour-V 120HT shafts in his Titleist irons and wedges. The Australian golfer opened the tournament with a score of 68 and improved with a round of 66 on Friday. Saturday, he shot another 66 to give himself a chance going into the final round. The KBS golfer admitted he has been battling mental trials for the last 6 months due to poor golf results. The final round would be the ultimate test to see if he could break through the tough competition. Sunday, he started out his round with a bogey, but quickly bounced back with 3 birdies to close out his front nine. On the back nine he made a costly bogey on the par 5 14th hole, but came in clutch on the 18th with a birdie to secure his spot at the top of the leaderboard for now. All he could do now was wait in the clubhouse for his competition to finish. Going into the 18th hole his left-handed competitor hadn’t missed a putt inside 6 feet the whole tournament, until the unthinkable happened. He let his nerves get the better of him and he missed his par putt to the right to miss out on a playoff and a chance at the victory. From the clubhouse the Australian winner said, “When he missed that putt, it’s a combination of shock and feeling bad for him, but at the same time just realizing that the huge burden of trying to win again is off the shoulders.” The KBS player is now a 2-time winner at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
