The Red Label found itself at the top of the leaderboard after an emotional final round! The player opened his week with a solid round of 63, and then followed with a score of 70. Saturday, he shot a 67 to give himself a 4-stroke lead going into Sunday. The final round was full of ups, downs, tough competition, and even injury.
These factors put the resilient KBS player to the test. The KBS player played a solid final round, but it was his 31-year-old opponent who shot lights out on the back nine to apply the pressure. He would go on to birdie 8 out of 9 holes on the back to force the KBS player to make a 12-foot putt to force a playoff. The focused golfer stayed calm and drained the 12-foot putt to extend the tournament. The only problem was when he made the putt, he was so excited that the fist pump he gave ended up throwing his shoulder out of socket. He would have to play the playoff with a hurt shoulder, which was an advantage for his opponent. They both hit their tee shots down the middle and laid up their second shots to leave themselves short chips. Requiring medical attention the KBS golfer took a quick break to have his shoulder get checked on and receive medical tape. His opponent got too comfortable and chunked his third shot from 85 yards into the water. The crowd was stunned and the momentum had shifted to the injured golfer. He went on to hit his approach shot to 6 feet and drained the put to claim the victory! The 22-year-old golf prodigy claimed his 2nd tour victory and received an invitation to the most prestigious major in golf this week.
