During Edwin’s 24 years he served in a variety of command and staff assignments in the United States, Germany, South Korea, Central America and the Middle East. He served as the Chief of Operations and Supply, Defense Logistics Agency Energy Middle East from March 2007 through July 2010.
During his induction ceremony, Edwin received the Hall of Fame Medal as well as his induction plaque. During Edwin’s illustrious military career, he earned several Quartermaster educational certifications. Edwin’s passion for learning did not stop after he retired from the Army. Edwin enrolled in the Keiser University College of Golf Associates of Science in Golf Management degree program.
Edwin identified several similarities between his military training and his golf program curriculum. For example:
Club Management Course – “Leadership skills are integral skills in the military as well you use those same leadership skills when running and managing a Golf Country Club. Managing staff, facilities, materials, members and guests all require leadership skills.”
Mental Approach Course – “In the military you must make clear decisions, many of them on the spot split decisions. Sometimes you only have fractions of a second to decide. Utilizing the Mental Approach to golf – you plan your golf shot, then adjust if it doesn’t work out.”
History of Golf – “Studying the history of the Military and studying the History of Golf gives you the foundation to compare the past and the present.”
Club Fitting – “Fix, repair or replace.” “As a Military Quartermaster, I provided logistics and had to evaluate the equipment to determine which process) (Fix, repair, or replace) was correct for the situation.” Edwin stated he uses the same techniques in his Club Fitting class as he evaluates each of his golf clubs for example “Are the current golf grips still functioning correctly or do I need to replace the grips?”
