Swing Weight: What It Is and Why It Matters

October 20, 2026

What is swing weight, and how can it affect your golf swing? In this video, Steve Barney from Keiser University College of Golf explains how swing weight measures the balance of a golf club in relation to the weight of the clubhead.

Using a swing weight scale, Steve demonstrates how club fitters and builders measure swing weight and why finding the right balance can make a difference for individual golfers. A club that feels too light may make it difficult to sense the clubhead during the swing, while one that is too heavy can contribute to unwanted swing tendencies.
