Premier private club in Southeast Virginia features 18-hole golf course, 9-hole, par-3 course, new family aquatics center, tennis facility and waterfront dining
NORTHBROOK, Ill., – The Cedar Point Club Board of Directors has announced that they have selected KemperSports, a leading golf, sports, entertainment and hospitality company, to manage Cedar Point Club in Suffolk, Va. KemperSports will leverage Cedar Point’s scenic riverfront location and host of first-class offerings and amenities to enhance member engagement and strengthen its reputation as Southeast Virginia’s premier private club.
“Cedar Point is a wonderful club set in a beautiful location,” said KemperSports CEO Steve Skinner. “Between premier golf, a brand new aquatics center, indoor and outdoor tennis, and an array of dining options, Cedar Point offers something the entire family can enjoy. We are excited to work with the Board of Directors to elevate the member experience and take the club to new heights.”
Established in 1964, Cedar Point is located at the confluence of the Nansemond and James Rivers in Southeast Virginia. The crown jewel of the club is its 7,100-yard, 18-hole golf course that was renovated in 2004 by Virginia-based renowned course architect Tom Clark. The par-72 layout features TifSport Bermuda tees and fairways, drought- and heat-resistant A1/A4 bent grass greens, and newly constructed capillary concrete bunkers, which combine to create superb course conditions year-round. Host of four Virginia State Golf Association (VSGA) Men’s State Amateur Championships (1975, 1982, 2009, 2022) and the future home of the 2023 VSGA Women’s Amateur, Cedar Point also offers members and their guests a fun and unique nine-hole, par-3 experience that presents some of the most spectacular vistas in the entire Tidewater area.
“For nearly 60 years, Cedar Point has served as a relaxing retreat for our members and their families,” said Cedar Point President and Chairman Cameron Robinett. “Following over $10 million in upgrades throughout our entire campus over the last four years, we sought to partner with a best-in-class operator to complement these facility enhancements. KemperSports’ passion for creating memorable experiences through unparalleled service makes them the right steward of our vision for the club’s future. We look forward to bringing their commitment to excellence and decades of expertise to our members and their families as we aim to take the member lifestyle to an exemplary level for years to come.”
Cedar Point’s 27 holes of golf are complemented by a newly renovated 18-station driving range, putting and chipping greens, and PGA Professional teaching staff that coordinates over 30 annual member events a year, including Wine and Wedges play, Nine and Dine nights, and Par 3 tournaments.
With four outdoor lighted Har-Tru clay tennis courts and two indoor Deco-Turf courts, the Cedar Point tennis complex is unmatched in the area and offers classes, camps, lessons and leagues for players of all ages and skill levels led by USPTA Elite Professional Jan Talian. The club also boasts a brand new family aquatics center that features a full-size pool with swimming lanes that serves as home to the Ironclad Swim Club, a water slide and children’s wading pool, not to mention, Riverwinds, Cedar Point’s poolside restaurant.
In addition, Cedar Point’s clubhouse includes Cedars on the Nansemond, a dining room that can serve approximately 140 guests, as well as the Juniper Room, a fine dining and spirits experience which can accommodate 40 members and guests. Both offer beautiful panoramic views of the river and make for a great venue for weddings, rehearsal dinners and a variety of other private celebrations and events.
Recently, KemperSports tapped hospitality executive Greg Marquart as the club’s new general manager. Throughout Marquart’s 30-plus year career within the hospitality industry, he’s held various distinguished roles, including minority owner/operator for award-winning food and beverage concepts, hospitality consultant for major national and international brands, and senior leadership positions for prestigious hotels and private membership clubs. In this new role, Marquart will lead Cedar Point in delivering a one-of-a-kind member experience and oversee its business, food and beverage, golf and recreational operations.
