NAPLES, FL. – Kensington Golf & Country Club has reopened its completely restored Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed championship golf course following a nearly $7.2-million investment by the Club’s private membership.
The project included planting all new varieties of Bermuda grass playing surfaces, Bimini fairways and TifEagle greens; adding drainage to promote “firm-and-fast” playing conditions; the addition of long, meandering “ribbon tees” to create new distances and angles; enhanced sight lines from all bunkers and updated bunker liner construction; reduced concrete cart paths in landing areas; and state-of-the-art irrigation control system.
“I take tremendous pride in the design work done at Kensington Golf & Country Club over the years, starting with the original golf course more than 25 years ago and followed by the renovation completed in 2006,” said Jones. “Now, we have a completely reinvigorated and updated golf course, in concert with our strategic design philosophies.”
Centrally located on 380 acres off Pine Ridge Road just east of Airport-Pulling Road, Kensington Golf & Country Club is one of the more established clubs in North Naples having opened in 1994. The golf course restoration comes on the heels of a $3.5-million renovation and expansion of the Club’s 30,000-square-foot clubhouse.
“With this latest work now completed on our golf course, we can offer current and prospective members a practically brand-new club experience within an established club setting,” said David Krzywonos, General Manager of Kensington Golf & Country Club. “We are especially proud to complete this latest project with no incremental assessment.”
Kensington Golf & Country Club offers casual and formal dining, including a 150-seat outdoor dining area known as Brighton Pointe. Designed by well-known Naples architect David Humphrey, this open-air building offers a stunning view down the 18th hole of the golf course and features a casual, island style architecture, including a full kitchen and large bar area. It also extends resort style food and beverage service to the adjacent pool.
Other club amenities include an Olympic-sized heated swimming pool with cabanas and year-round social activities. There also are seven rebuilt Har-Tru tennis courts and four new Pickleball courts, plus a recently renovated fitness center, featuring a Pilates studio.
