FRANKFORT, K.Y. – The Kentucky State University (KSU) men’s golf team clinched the Derrall Foreman Invitational at the Cleveland Country Club in Cleveland, Mississippi, shooting a three-day total of 868 while playing OnCore Golf’s award-winning, perimeter-weighted VERO X1 and X2 golf balls.

KSU’s Rhett Johnson took second place in the tournament with a score of 214 (70-72-72), and teammate Micah Stangebye tied for third at 215 (75-68-72) on the par 71 layout, which is the home course of the Delta State University men’s golf team. Max Dufey tied for seventh place at 218 (70-74-74), and Jean-Marc Chevrotiere was just outside the top 10, placing 12th with a score of 221 (78-71-72). Ryan Khounlavong rounded out the KSU team and shot 242 (78-81-83).

“Our win at the Derrall Foreman Invitational is largely due to our team’s consistent play off the tee and around the greens with OnCore’s VERO X1 and X2 golf balls,” said KSU head golf coach Mike Grugin. “I’m returning my top five players from the fall, and with the addition of two international players, Demar James [Antigua] and Max Dufey [Santiago, Chile], I expect great things from this team.”

Grugin and Kentucky State began the partnership with OnCore near the end of the 2022 fall season and immediately experienced performance gains across the board after putting the VERO X1 and X2 in play in competition. The VERO X1, launched in 2020, is a four-piece, perimeter-weighted ball with a cast Urethane cover and 85 compression. The VERO X2 debuted in 2022 – also a four-piece, Tour-caliber golf ball but featuring an aggressive 95 compression for even higher swing speeds.

“We couldn’t be happier for coach Grugin and his players as they experience the benefits of playing OnCore golf balls at a highly competitive level,” said OnCore Chairman and CEO Keith Blakely. “We’ll be rooting hard for the guys as they take on a busy schedule this spring.”
