Following the successful launch of SYRGEX and FLEXURX golf shafts, expanded worldwide agreement builds on breakthrough composite technology to unlock new opportunities across sports, footwear, luggage and consumer products.
SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. – Golf has long been a proving ground for equipment innovation, where advancements in materials, engineering and manufacturing can translate into meaningful performance gains. Now, a technology partnership that began with the development of next-generation golf shafts is expanding into a much broader range of global markets.
KINETIXX, a leader in advanced composite engineering and manufacturing, and Arclin, a global materials science company and owner of the Kevlar® portfolio, today announced a significant expansion of their exclusive worldwide partnership involving Kevlar® EXO™, a next-generation aramid fiber engineered for exceptional strength, flexibility and lightweight performance.
The expanded agreement builds on the successful February 2026 introduction of KINETIXX’s SYRGEX and FLEXURX golf shafts, which became the first commercial products to demonstrate the company’s proprietary unidirectional (UD) composite technology with Kevlar® EXO™.
Originally established in January 2025, the partnership granted KINETIXX exclusivity for Kevlar® EXO™ UD composite applications in golf shafts, clubheads, other parts of golf clubs, stick sports, and racquet sports. The new addendum extends that exclusivity into additional categories, including hard-shell luggage, carrying systems, hockey skate boots, lacrosse, fashion footwear, performance footwear and specialized footwear applications.
For KINETIXX, the expansion represents an important milestone in a partnership that has already delivered tangible innovation to the golf industry, and an opportunity to apply the same advanced materials technology to an entirely new generation of products.
Golf: The Proving Ground for Next-Generation Composite Technology
For decades, golf shaft manufacturers have sought to improve the relationship between weight, stiffness, flexibility, stability and energy transfer.
During a golf swing, a shaft experiences a complex combination of bending, twisting and radial deformation, all while rapidly loading and unloading energy through impact.
The challenge isn’t simply to make a shaft stronger or stiffer. It’s to precisely control how the shaft responds to those forces, allowing it to deliver consistent performance without sacrificing the feel and responsiveness golfers expect. KINETIXX’s proprietary composite technology with Kevlar® EXO™ introduces a new approach to addressing those demands.
Kevlar® EXO™ features an advanced molecular structure that delivers approximately 40% greater strength-to-weight performance than conventional Kevlar® K29 fiber, along with improved flexibility and energy absorption.
By combining those characteristics with high-modulus carbon fiber and proprietary manufacturing techniques, KINETIXX has developed golf shafts designed to deliver targeted structural reinforcement, controlled flexibility and exceptional stability under load.
“Golf shafts are one of the most demanding applications for advanced composite materials because of the enormous forces involved and the precision required,” said Jason Horodezky, CEO and CTO of KINETIXX. “The goal isn’t simply to create a stronger shaft. It’s to engineer exactly how that shaft bends, twists and recovers throughout the swing. Kevlar® EXO™ gave us an entirely new set of material properties to work with, and our proprietary manufacturing technology allowed us to take full advantage of them. SYRGEX and FLEXURX demonstrate what’s possible when you engineer the material itself around the performance requirements of the golfer.”
Two Golf Shafts. Two Distinct Approaches to Performance.
The February 2026 launch of SYRGEX and FLEXURX marked the first commercial introduction of KINETIXX’s proprietary Kevlar® EXO™ composite technology.
While both shaft families incorporate advanced carbon fiber cores and Kevlar® EXO™ reinforcement, each utilizes a distinct construction method to deliver different performance characteristics.
SYRGEX: Engineered for Stability and Precision Under Load
Designed for golfers with moderate-to-high swing speeds, particularly players with aggressive transitions or those who place significant loading demands on their equipment, SYRGEX emphasizes structural stability, controlled energy transfer and precision.
The shaft features a hybrid construction combining high-modulus 30T and 40T carbon fiber prepreg with a precision filament-wound Kevlar® EXO™ outer reinforcement structure.
Through carefully engineered helical and hoop fiber orientations, the Kevlar® EXO™ reinforcement helps resist unwanted twisting and cross-sectional deformation under load. This construction also supports a geometrically spineless shaft architecture, designed to deliver consistent rotational balance and predictable performance throughout the swing.
The result is a shaft engineered to maintain structural control under demanding swing conditions while supporting efficient energy return through impact.
FLEXURX: Engineered for Responsive Efficiency and Forgiveness
FLEXURX takes a different approach, emphasizing stability, responsiveness and controlled flexibility for a broad range of golfers. Its construction features a precision table-rolled carbon fiber core reinforced by an outer layer of Kevlar® EXO™ UD prepreg oriented at approximately 45 degrees.
This fiber orientation is specifically engineered to improve torsional and shear control while helping maintain cross-sectional stability during dynamic loading.
The result is a shaft designed to provide structural stability without an excessively rigid feel, supporting the responsive characteristics and forgiveness many golfers seek.
Together, SYRGEX and FLEXURX demonstrate the versatility of Kevlar® EXO™ as an engineered composite material rather than a simple reinforcement additive.
“SYRGEX and FLEXURX were never intended to be the same shaft with different labels,” Horodezky added. “We designed them around different loading characteristics and performance objectives. SYRGEX is about maintaining stability and precision under greater force, while FLEXURX is about delivering responsive efficiency and forgiveness with structural control. Both use Kevlar® EXO™, but in different forms and orientations. That’s the advantage of being able to engineer the material and the structure together.”
Why the Material Matters
While Kevlar® has been used in sporting goods for decades, incorporating advanced aramid fibers into high-performance composite structures has historically presented manufacturing challenges.
Traditional Kevlar® offers excellent tensile strength and toughness, but its material characteristics can complicate integration into certain composite manufacturing processes.
Kevlar® EXO™ introduces an advanced copolymer aramid architecture with improved molecular alignment, providing greater strength-to-weight performance, flexibility and energy absorption compared with conventional Kevlar® K29.
KINETIXX has combined those material properties with its expertise in developing proprietary unidirectional (UD) prepreg composites.
Unlike woven fabrics, which interlace fibers in multiple directions, UD composites align reinforcement fibers along specific paths, allowing engineers to precisely control how a structure responds to different types of loading.
This distinction is particularly important in golf shaft construction, where bending stiffness, torsional stability and resistance to radial deformation must be carefully balanced.
Rather than adapting its shaft designs to commercially available composite materials, KINETIXX developed proprietary UD prepreg configurations with Kevlar® EXO™ tailored to specific mechanical requirements.
The company has created 18 distinct UD prepreg configurations with Kevlar® EXO™ using a proprietary resin system engineered to integrate the aramid reinforcement with carbon fiber composite structures.
A central breakthrough lies in overcoming the historic processing barriers associated with next-generation aramid fibers. Because raw aramid fibers inherently resist conventional resin wet-out, KINETIXX developed a proprietary active resin chemistry specifically formulated to chemically bond with the molecular structure of Kevlar® EXO™. This approach eliminates interlaminar shear weakness and micro-void formation, addressing two significant challenges in the manufacture of advanced hybrid composites.
The technology also enables the co-curing of ultra-thin unidirectional carbon fiber prepregs with standalone, homogeneous Kevlar® EXO™ layers. Through precise automated table-rolled lamination, compression molding and advanced Resin Transfer Molding (RTM), KINETIXX controls exothermic displacement and thermal expansion mismatch during the curing process. The resulting multi-axial laminate structures combine the extreme tensile strength of Kevlar® EXO™ with the high flexural modulus of carbon fiber, delivering exceptional fracture toughness and vibration dissipation.
This approach allows KINETIXX to precisely manage fiber orientation, material placement, structural density and the interaction between reinforcement layers.
In prototype composite applications, KINETIXX has demonstrated the ability to reduce overall material density by up to 18% through its UD technology with Kevlar® EXO™ while maintaining a high concentration of load-bearing reinforcement fibers.
The company’s specialized vacuum-curing processes also support low-resin-content composite construction, helping maximize the proportion of structural reinforcement within the finished component.
For golf shaft development, these capabilities create opportunities to engineer more precise combinations of stiffness, flexibility, torsional control and structural stability.
A Golf Innovation With Global Potential
The commercial introduction of SYRGEX and FLEXURX demonstrated that Kevlar® EXO™ could be successfully integrated into sophisticated, high-performance composite structures using KINETIXX’s proprietary manufacturing technology. That achievement helped establish the foundation for expanding the partnership into additional industries.
Within golf, the technology’s applications extend beyond complete high-performance shafts to internal structures and assemblies, including clubheads, clubhead sub-assemblies, clubfaces, inserts, crowns and sole plates developed for original design manufacturers (ODMs) and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). These specialized components are intended for products marketed or sold exclusively within the premium and ultra-premium golf equipment segments, where advanced material performance, precision engineering and structural optimization are particularly valuable.
The new worldwide agreement extends KINETIXX’s UD composite technology with Kevlar® EXO™ exclusivity into a broad range of applications, including:
- Hard-Shell Luggage and Carrying Systems: Lightweight composite structures engineered for durability, impact management and targeted reinforcement.
- Hockey Skate Boots: Advanced structural components designed to balance support, controlled flexibility and weight.
- Lacrosse and Racquet Sports: Composite applications for demanding sporting equipment, including tennis, pickleball, squash, badminton and table tennis.
- Performance Footwear: Applications spanning running, skating, winter sports, hiking, soccer and football.
- Fashion and Lifestyle Footwear: New opportunities for lightweight structural components, innovative silhouettes and advanced material integration.
- Specialized Footwear: Potential applications in construction, military and other demanding environments requiring durable, lightweight structural solutions.
Although these products serve different purposes, many share the same fundamental engineering challenges found in golf shaft design: controlling structural behavior, minimizing unnecessary weight and maintaining performance under repeated stress.
For Arclin, the expansion represents an opportunity to bring Kevlar® EXO™ into additional consumer and industrial markets through KINETIXX’s proven composite manufacturing capabilities.
“Golf provided an outstanding opportunity to demonstrate the potential of Kevlar® EXO™ in a highly demanding commercial application,” said Joe Hovanec, Arclin’s Vice President of Kevlar® EXO™. “The development and launch of SYRGEX and FLEXURX showed how the unique properties of Kevlar® EXO™ can be translated into sophisticated composite structures through KINETIXX’s engineering and manufacturing expertise. That success creates a strong foundation for expanding into additional markets, where manufacturers are seeking new ways to improve strength, weight efficiency, durability and product performance.”
