Hello golf stakeholders:
Welcome to “penultimate” rounds month nationally for the industry (that’s not the perfectly correct use of penultimate but I’m taking liberties (the 2nd highest) as a former English major). But first, we’ve had a look at the July rounds preview through our Golf Market Research Center participants’ figures and, while the comps to last year flattened, they’re still healthier than Jim’s forecast for the “giveback” vs. ’20. Now to August, Jim shares the lead article this month with Craig Kessler of the SCGA with a point-counterpoint analysis of the LA County RFP for 5 of their properties which is looking to rewrite several of the “sacred rules” of municipal golf management within the largest golf system in the nation. Craig is always a worthy opponent in debate and he couldn’t resist when Jim sent him the draft of the article and outlined some compelling additional reference points and facts. Read it and decide for yourself if they’re both right or who wins (on points, we propose that there’s not a knockout punch for either here):
