LEGACY TRUST FOCUSES GOLF SPONSORSHIP ON CELEBRATING TOURNAMENT VOLUNTEERS
Long Time Partner of Web.com Tour Championship Finds Its Niche
When CEO and Chairman Kristin McLauchlan started Legacy Trust Family Wealth Offices more than 15 years ago, key to the guiding principles of the business was and remains serving its community. The company has committed countless resources to supporting the efforts of Jacksonville-area non-profits including the Ronald McDonald House, the Gabriel House of Care, K9’s for Warriors and The Boys & Girls Clubs. It was no surprise when McLauchlan jumped at the chance to sponsor the volunteer program for the Web.com Tour Championship, being held this year from September 17-23 in neighboring Atlantic Beach.
Aligned with Legacy’s brand objective, the tournament is a significant fundraiser for Wolfson Children’s Hospital and many other local charities. Nearly 400 local men, women and children lend their time to ensure the event goes smoothly from operations to hospitality to the junior players acting as standard bearers. Said McLauchlan, “We are strong believers in the Three T’s of charity – Time, Talent and Treasure. It is important to the DNA of our staff and even the DNA of our clients.” She added, “This tournament doesn’t run without each of these folks participating and we want to reward and congratulate them for offering their time and their talents to support local charities through the tournament.”
The funding provided by Legacy Trust directly supports the volunteer program by offsetting costs of water and snacks on the course and uniforms, as well as the food and beverage for the Volunteer Party. From a marketing perspective, Legacy Trust will garner its share of visibility, having its logo on each of the volunteers’ hats and shirts and naming rights to the volunteer tent known as the Legacy Trust Pavilion. Legacy Trust also hosts the Volunteer Training Day, during which each volunteer registers, and receives their assignments. “This is where we get to meet almost every volunteer, shake their hands, look them in the eyes and thank them,” said McLauchlan. “We get to put faces with the hard work they put in, and we get to put a human face on the Legacy Trust brand. This is really my favorite part.”
Legacy Trust has been a sponsor of the many iterations of the tournament, dating back seven years when it was a Founding Partner of the Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open, simply a stop on the then-named Nationwide Tour and held at the TPC Dye’s Valley Course. In those days, recalls McLauchlan there were four or five sponsors and they all shared one chalet for hospitality. With Web.com’s sponsorship and the magnitude of the tournament for its players came a new venue, bigger crowds and a wider pool of sponsors with whom they share the spotlight. “It’s great to see the tournament spread its wings. National TV exposure and having the guys graduate to the PGA TOUR immediately after play makes this an investment in our area and communicates to the folks behind the scenes that we’re in their corner.”
“We know the volunteers appreciate the extra attention we can provide to them thanks to Legacy Trust’s involvement,” said Tournament Director Adam Renfroe. “Our volunteers are the backbone of this tournament, and they deserve the recognition. Legacy has been involved with this event for a long time, and I’m thrilled to have carved out this niche for them.”
Legacy Trust also sponsors the North Florida Junior Golf Shootout, which takes place on the Monday before the tournament. Four teams compete in a shootout on the closing four holes of Atlantic Beach Country Club. Each team is comprised of two juniors, a member of the media and a Web.com Tour player. The tournament finishes up on the 18th green, where the kids get to experience hitting their approach shots into the greens surrounded by tents and a crowd. Legacy also uses the tournament to entertain clients and staff and as an introduction to what they hope are future clients – the Web.com Tour players.
“We’ve been where these guys are, and so have our clients – working hard, working their way up and making the sacrifices it takes to get to the next level. Our goal is to take care of their families when they get where they’re going,” said McLauchlan. “This is all about caring.”
