Burr Ridge, Illinois: The U.S. Adaptive Golf Alliance (USAGA), serving the Adaptive golf community through their inclusion in the game of golf, provides adaptive golfers with access, instruction, and competition at all levels.
One of the most important components of the USAGA organization is the teaching and coaching sector.
USAGA provides hands-on adaptive golf instruction to golfers with physical, cognitive, and other special needs. As more golfers are recognizing the needs of the adaptive community, the USAGA is pleased to continue to work with adaptive golfers, teaching all ability levels the fundamentals of the game from balance and posture, to set up, swing path and how to have fun playing the game.
One of the beginner golf programs that the USAGA provides is S.N.A.G. Clinics, (Starting New At Golf), which are clinics that serve special needs children of any skill level by introducing them to golf within a fun atmosphere. USAGA trained instructors teach the students the fundamentals of the game including the grip, posture, aim, putting and chipping, using specialized equipment designed for beginner golfers. At the end of the program, the students are given a certificate of completion, and a sense of joy and freedom with the hopes that they will attend USAGA’s driving range programs.
“The USAGA is proud of the instruction our trained Adaptive Coaches provide to the adaptive community,” says Edmund ‘EQ’ Sylvester, Chairman and Founder, USAGA. “It’s important to ensure adaptive golfers have access to instruction and that each student learns the fundamentals and has every opportunity to enjoy this great game.”
The USAGA also offers driving range clinics to show all the different ways adaptive players can use standard golf equipment. Part of these sessions include adaptive golf coaches showing attendees the different types of equipment that can be used for adaptive golfers such as specialized clubs and golf carts. The result is to build their game & confidence to get out on the course in one of USAGA’s on-course experiences or with friends & family.
Another segment of the USAGA is the Adaptive Golf Enhancement Program Workshops in which volunteers,PGA Professionals, physical therapists, adaptive P.E. teachers and experienced golfers learn how to effectively coach individuals with disabilities utilizing adaptive golf techniques.
