Honorary Chair and LPGA Hall of Fame Instructor, Kay McMahon, hosting Golf 8.5 workshop, giving non-golfers chance to participate alongside the event
ALBANY, NY. – Links to Leadership, an organization of female community leaders based in the Capitol Region of New York State, is launching a large-scale charity golf tournament to benefit the Women’s Employment and Resource Center (WERC). The event will be held on Monday September 13, 2021, at the McGregor Links Country Club, in Wilton NY. Participants can choose to play golf or attend a four-hour “Intro to Golf” workshop hosted by Honorary Chair and LPGA Hall of Fame instructor Kay McMahon, creator of Golf 8.5. Both events include lunch, dinner, contests, and prizes.
McMahon, who is also a PGA of America and one of Golf Digest’s Top 50 female instructors, makes her “three-season” home base in the Capital Region, providing lessons and workshops and is very involved in the local golf community.
“I am honored to be a part of this inaugural Links to Leadership golf tournament that provides a fun and welcoming opportunity for women and girls to come together, foster relationships and share their enthusiasm for the game of golf,” said McMahon.
Novice golfers or soon-to-be golfers will be able to participate in a McMahon’s signature Golf 8.5 workshop simultaneous to the golf tournament. McMahon created Golf 8.5 as a simple and easy to learn the golf swing. Her approach requires only four steps to remember in the set-up and 4.5 positions to execute during the swing. Golf 8.5 “declutters the attic” and simplifies the learning process, McMahon often says. The result is a classic golf swing for any golfer of any level. (www.edukaytiongolf.com).
“Many people connected with or who volunteer for charity golf tournaments don’t play golf,” said McMahon, “What a perfect opportunity to grow the game by offering a four-hour introductory golf workshop to non-golfers alongside the tournament; it allows them to feel more connected and involved with the spirit of the event. More than 40 people have registered for the workshop which is very exciting.”
The mission of Links to Leadership is to inspire connection and engagement through the game of golf. Our vision is to create a continuum that supports women and girls through community, mentorship and education. Proceeds from the tournament will support the Women’s Employment and Resource Center (WERC), a non-for-profit organization that works to advance women’s success in the workplace by building their economic and personal independence.
“The idea moving forward is to choose an organization every year that serves the needs of women and girls,” said Georgia Kelly, co-founder of Links to Leadership. “We hope to get more women on the golf course and really for the next generation, to keep teaching girls to come together. By playing in the tournament or participating in Kay’s workshop, everyone gets the opportunity to share in the game of golf.” For more information, visit www.linkstoleadership.org.
