As Luštica Bay continues its journey to becoming a prime destination in the Adratic region, the golf course joins an elite group of under 10% of the world’s golf courses to boast sea views from every hole
Luštica Bay, Montenegro: Luštica Bay, Montenegro’s emerging town in the making spearheaded by renowned Orascom Development Holding, continues to redefine Mediterranean living with the development of the country’s very first golf course and residences. To commemorate its visionary construction, Luštica Bay proudly hosted its inaugural event with sporting legend and leading voice in golf course design, Gary Player – including taking the first symbolic swing. The course joins Luštica Bay’s newest and most luxurious development to date, The Peaks, and represents major investment in Montenegro’s high-end real estate and tourism landscape. Thoughtfully designed to elevate the world-class destination whilst appealing to the growing interest in golf globally, the development sets a new standard of excellence in Montenegro and promises to attract both golfers and tourists on an international scale.
Joining an elite group of under 10% of the world’s golf courses to boast sea views from every hole, much was studied to optimize the layout of the course and to appreciate the natural beauty of Montenegro. A signature design by Gary Player, renowned for creating iconic courses around the world, Luštica Bay’s new golf course overcomes its challenging topography of gradients between 25-30% throughout the site to offer players breathtaking views and world-class play. Spanning an impressive 860,730 m2 (86 ha), the 18-hole course stretches 6,519 meters in length and offers a par 72 challenge. The course’s dramatic elevation changes are evident in its altitude range, with the lowest hole at 130 meters above sea level and the highest reaching 310 meters, providing varied play and stunning vistas.
Designed to integrate seamlessly with its surroundings and The Peaks’ residential development, the course features innovative elements such as island tees to reduce water usage and preserve the natural landscape. This carefully crafted layout promises an unforgettable experience for players of all levels and is joined by a world-class driving range and golf club. The Luštica Bay golf academy will offer private and group lessons for individuals of all ages and skills, increasing accessibility to the sport and building a new generation of golfers in Montenegro.
Steven McFarlane, Senior Designer at Gary Player Design says, “The course at Luštica Bay presents a unique challenge with its dramatic elevation changes and steep topography. As such, we’ve incorporated stepped fairways, strategically placed bunkers and compact putting surfaces that nestle into the slopes and remarkable Adriatic coastline.”
Gary Player, Champion Golfer, Ambassador and Golf Course Designer adds “The property’s natural beauty is extraordinary – with its rugged terrain, diverse wildlife, and Adriatic Sea views. Its development has demanded innovative solutions but also unparalleled opportunities, enabling us to create a course that will offer golfers a truly unique journey. It is with great pride that we’re expanding the game of golf to Montenegro…if I had to have a house on any golf course in the world or a villa, this would be my place.”
In addition to the golf course, The Peaks will also be home to the destination’s very first golf residences. Botanika, the development’s first neighborhood phase comprises 44 sophisticated villas, 21 townhouses and 80 apartments. The properties seamlessly blend authentic Mediterranean influences with modern amenities – including dedicated golf storage and unobstructed views of the neighboring golf course from above holes 1,2,3,4 &5. Designed by internationally acclaimed architects Block 722 and NRA Atelier, the neighborhood is crafted to complement the landscape and colors of Montenegro. Well-articulated layouts and world-class amenities such as terraces with lounge seating and dining areas, are designed to maximize indoor-outdoor living.
Raphael Krucker, CEO at Andermatt Swiss Alps and Luštica Bay says “As Montenegro continues to solidify its position as a sought-after investment destination, at Luštica Bay we’re committed to continuing the development of timeless, sophisticated neighborhoods. Now, with the addition of Montenegro’s very first golf course, we’re setting new standards of excellence in the region – a game-changer not only for our development, but for Montenegro’s entire tourism landscape.”
Complementing The Peaks, the wider town of Luštica Bay provides a vibrant hub of dining, shopping and entertainment for both sightseers and adventure-seekers. Combining modern luxury with authentic Mediterranean charm, the development is the ideal destination for both short and long-term visitors to explore Montenegro’s stunning natural landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Now bolstered with its upcoming championship golf course, Luštica Bay continues to expand its offering of world-class sporting facilities, establishing itself as a premier destination for all.
