Jim Nantz, Jimmy Roberts, Tom Rinaldi among those providing unique memories through the company’s podcasts
Naples, Florida – Golfers love great golf stories.
It could be one about Jack, or Arnie, or even Tiger. The tale might hearken to a legendary name from golf’s early days or perhaps spotlight a modern-day star known as much for his humanity as his major accomplishments.
For PGA Professional Jason Becker, co-founder and CEO of Golf Life Navigators, the sweet sound of a great golf story is what inspired him to launch the company’s “Voices of the Game” series of audio podcasts, featuring many of golf’s most respected media members.
Since the start of this year, those who have contributed to “Voices of the Game” include:
Jim Nantz of CBS Sports
Jimmy Roberts of NBC Sports/Golf Channel
Tom Rinaldi of ESPN
Steve Sands of NBC Sports/Golf Channel
Tim Rosaforte of Golf Channel
Steve DiMeglio of USA Today
Bob Harig of ESPN.com
Gary Van Sickle of Morning Read, and
Longtime golf media Bob Bubka, Jeff Rude and Dave Shedloski
Kelly Elbin, Golf Life Navigators’ director of communications and former director of communications for the PGA of America, guides guests down the fairways of time on the podcasts.
“‘Voices of the Game’ is an extraordinary collection of story telling from a stellar group of golf media who care passionately about the game and the people who have forged its growth over the years,” says Becker. “Their ability to recall those special moments, and people, in golf, is what all of us gravitate to. It’s a big part of why golf is so endearing to so many.”
Among his favorite “Voices,” Becker cites Rinaldi’s saga of Rory McIlroy’s meltdown at the 2011 Masters, only to rise to his personal zenith two months later by routing the field to win his first major championship. And there’s the riveting story Nantz tells of his first Masters for CBS Sports, in 1986, when Jack Nicklaus roared back on that Sunday afternoon to win one for the ages.
“The Rory story is not so much the play on the course,” says Becker, “but the admirable way that Rory conducted himself off the course. Tom’s ability to deliver that narrative is compelling and leaves you with an even deeper appreciation for a truly great golfer.
“For Jim Nantz, a guy who always wanted to call golf for CBS, so much transpired at that Masters that actually launched his career. Jim gave us 45 minutes of his time, so to him and all of the ‘Voices,’ we are extremely grateful.”
