After a measured start to his 2026 season, J.J. Spaun claimed a thrilling victory at the Valero Texas Open, edging out Matt Wallace, Michael Kim, and Robert MacIntyre by a single stroke. With the win, Spaun earned his second exquisitely handcrafted Valero Texas Open trophy, designed and created by Malcolm DeMille.
This iconic trophy features a crystal centerpiece shaped as the state of Texas and the Valero flag, encircled by intricately hand-sculpted bronze depictions of San Antonio’s most recognizable landmarks. These include The Alamo, San Fernando Cathedral, the Tower of Life, Tower of the Americas, Frost Tower, Marriott Rivercenter, the Torch of Friendship, and the famed San Antonio River Walk.
The bronze perpetual trophy stands atop a three-tiered oak wood base, honoring past champions of the Valero Texas Open dating back to 1922, while the Champion’s trophy is mounted on a single-tier oak wood base. Each piece reflects the craftsmanship and attention to detail that define Malcolm DeMille’s work.
