MAPGA and its more than 1,200 PGA of America Golf Professionals Stand Together to Drive Out Hunger

Stafford, Va. – The Middle Atlantic Section of the PGA of America (MAPGA) has announced a $5,000 donation to the Mother of Light Center. The donation is the second of two $5,000 installments made by the MAPGA in its annual Drive Out Hunger program.  The first installment went to LINK, a 501c(3) non-profit organization that provides food and financial services to qualified people in need in the Herndon and Sterling Virginia communities.

Mother of Light Center (MOLC), located in Alexandria, has been in operation since 2019.  MOLC provides a coordinated approach to serving the most vulnerable who are struggling with poverty, food insecurity and homelessness.  MOLC is 100% led and staffed by volunteers. Food distribution is a significant part of MOLC’s mission.  In 2024, over 583,000 meals were distributed through the food pantry delivery program.  Clothing, diapers and household goods are also distributed.

While addressing their immediate physical needs, MOLC equips the community with essential skills.  After-school, teen, mother’s programs, children’s reading and summer camp programs, and ESL and life skills programs are designed to address educational and literacy challenges.

For more information about Mother of Light Center go to www.motheroflightcenter.com.

Supported primarily by donations of food and funds, LINK is comprised of dedicated churches, organizations, and individuals serving the Herndon and Sterling, Virginia communities. The all volunteer staff at LINK believe in the power of selfless service and the importance of providing people in crisis with unconditional love. This love includes commitment, compassion, and the courage to serve the sick, abused, hurt, unloved, and powerless.

Among LINK’s programing, the organization rescues food from area schools in Fairfax and Loudoun Counties, as well as rescues food from several area restaurants or stores, and distributes it back to those in need. Additionally, LINK operates a Mobile Food Pantry, every second Tuesday of the month, in the rear parking lot of Christ the Redeemer Church, located at 46833 Harry Byrd Highway, Sterling.

“On behalf of the Middle Atlantic PGA and our more than 1,200 PGA of America Golf Professionals, we are proud to partner with Mother of Light Center and LINK Against Hunger and support their amazing programs that aid people in need throughout our communities,” said Jeremy Greiner, PGA, MAPGA Central Chapter President. “Each year, the MAPGA raises over $6 million for local charities and we are honored to give back to those in need throughout the communities we serve.”
