Novi, MI – 2THUMB brand ambassador and PGA Tour champion Matt Wallace birdied the first playoff hole to defeat Spain’s Alfredo Garcia-Heredia to win the 2024 Omega European Masters on Sunday. The DP World Tour event was played at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in Crans Montana, Switzerland.
It was the 34-year-old Englishman’s first worldwide win since he captured the 2023 Corales Puntacana Championship on the PGA TOUR and first victory on the DPWT since 2018 when he won three times. Wallace finished 112th in the FedExCup standings to miss out on the PGA TOUR playoffs but starts the new season with a huge bounce back victory to end a six-year drought.
“That was a hard day, man,” Wallace said, getting emotional. “It wasn’t easy. I felt like there was a score out there, but I just couldn’t get anything going. … I’ve been playing great, and you don’t want to give it away, and I could’ve easily lost it a few times the last couple days, especially yesterday with how hard it was playing.”
Wallace shot 8-under 62 and was without a bogey after 36 holes, taking a four-stroke lead at the Euro Masters on Friday. With the win, he currently sits at the top of the European Ryder Cup points standings for next year’s matches at Bethpage Black.
