PRINCEVILLE MAKAI GOLF CLUB UNVEILS NEW 18-HOLE DISC GOLF COURSE – THE MAUKA COURSE
Kauai, Hawaii – Princeville Makai Golf Club in Princeville, Kauai, Hawaii recently unveiled its newest guest amenity, the new Mauka Disc Golf Course. The new course was designed and set up by disc golf manufacturer Innova Disc Golf. Innova’s co-founder Harold Duvall, Disc Golf Course Designer Andrew Duvall and Landscape Architect Darrell Bankes were on Kauai and designed the course. The name “Makai” is Hawaiian for “towards the ocean,” while “Mauka” is Hawaiian for “towards the mountains.”
The Mauka Disc Golf Course follows a similar flow and co-exists with Makai’s popular 9-hole Woods Course as both layouts wind their way through the native woodlands of Kauai’s North Shore. The synchronized layouts allow for Disc Golf tee times and rounds to be scheduled and played throughout the day and intermingled with traditional golfers.
“Disc Golf is a growing sport with over 10 million participants,” said Doug Sutter, general manager, Princeville Makai Golf Club. “With Princeville Makai Golf Club and nearby Hanalei Bay easily accessible from anywhere on the island, we believe our new Disc Golf Course will inspire more resort guests and residents who do not play traditional golf to enjoy the beauty for the North Shore. We’re excited about our newly formed relationship with Innova Disc Golf and are happy to partner with their team on the creation of the Mauka Course.”
Green fees for Disc Golf are $25 per person for those walking the course, or $45 per person for those riding in a golf cart. Custom-stamped Innova Discs and Innova Disc Golf bags are available in the Princeville Makai Golf Club’s golf shop. The Mauka Disc Golf Course is a 2.5 mile loop, providing walkers a TroonFIT health and wellness benefit.
Princeville Makai is no stranger to creating unique ways to market the facility to non-golfers. Each day, the club offers guided Sunset Golf Cart Tours that begin approximately two hours before sunset and end on the 7th hole boasting views of crashing waves in the ocean below, freshwater waterfalls, Hanalei Bay, Queen’s Bath and Mount Makana as the sun disappears over the horizon.
