PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Great Golf Boom of 2020 has evolved into the Great Golf TRAVEL Boom of 2021. Last year Americans took to the golf courses. This year they have taken to the highways … in search of new and exciting golf courses to satisfy their cravings.
For seven years the award-winning Traveling Golfer television show has visited some of the greatest golf courses and resorts across America … and outside of the country. So, it comes as no surprise that the new members of the Golf Travel Boom turn to the show as their own personal travel directory.
Show host Tony Leodora and producer Jamie McWilliams have been fielding questions almost every day from avid golfers about prospective destinations for their next golf trip. So, for the May episode of the Traveling Golfer they sat down and put together a list of some of the most intoxicating golf locations they have visited over the years.
Footage from this mixture of famous, exotic and some little-known golf courses has been edited into the ultimate golf travelogue. And they discuss each location in detail, so that viewers can plan their upcoming golf trips.
“The No. 1 question I have been asked over the year always involves giving tips on new golf destinations,” explains Leodora. “Now, as golf travel his a new crazed pinnacle, the questions have been coming faster than we can answer them. The best advice I can offer now is to watch this new show … then plan a trip.”
The May show is divided into three segments:
1. Drive-to destinations. Some of these are familiar, while others might be a new and exciting discovery.
2. Fly-to destinations. As Americans feel much safer about boarding an aircraft, locations such as Orlando, Arizona, Nevada and Myrtle Beach (with newly expanded service) come into play.
3. Overseas destinations. The world also is reopening after the pandemic and destinations such as Ireland, the Baja Peninsula of Mexico and Abaco in the Bahamas provide exotic temptations.
“First, the game of golf proved that it is a safe activity,” explains Bill Golden, president of Golf Tourism Solutions in Myrtle Beach. “Then golf travel proved to be safe. It’s a great feeling to say that the world of golf is now fully open again to the people who love the game.”
The May episode of the Traveling Golfer airs as a scheduled weekly feature show on NBC Sports and NBC Sports + throughout four markets in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. NBC Sports airings are 10:30 a.m. on Sundays, 10 p.m. on Tuesdays and 11 a.m. on Thursdays. NBC Sports + airs the show at 8 p.m. Mondays and Fridays. In addition, the show airs nationally, three times every day, on the new Fun Roads Network (funroads.tv/schedule) – in the San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Wichita, Detroit, Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia, Washington State, North Dakota, Raleigh, Orlando, San Jose, Albany and Boise markets. Additionally, national and international expansion has taken place via connected TV on Roku, Amazon Fire, SelectTV and GlewedTV.
The Traveling Golfer also airs a number of times in the Month of May on “Rivertalk” on HTC-4 in Myrtle Beach.
The show also airs on the Traveling Golfer network of websites … including The Golf Director Network and The Myrtle Beach Golf Channel (see full list of sites on travelinggolfervideo.com).
As part of every Traveling Golfer show there is the additional feature, “Tech Talk”, hosted by Tour Edge Golf experts, such as President Dave Glod. With years of experience as a club maker, Glod presents an inside look at the research and development of high-quality golf equipment.
Responding to golfers’ never-ending demands to learn more about interesting golf courses and golf resorts across the country and around the world, well-traveled host Tony Leodora created the Traveling Golfer so he could take viewers on video trips to some of the most exciting golf locations. Four times in the last six years, the show has been honored as the No. 1 Golf Television Show in America in the prestigious International Network of Golf awards, presented at the PGA Merchandise Show.
The Traveling Golfer is a series of monthly shows hosted by Leodora, who has 20 years of experience in televised golf. The featured destination stays on the website for one month, before being replaced by a new show. Alternate shows also air in a two-month rotation. All old shows are archived for continued viewing on the YouTube Network and on the home website, www.travelinggolfervideo.com.
