Korn Ferry Tour professional and son of longtime Knollwood Head Golf Professional makes Club history
ELMSFORD, N.Y. – Professional golfer Michael Miller set a new course record at Knollwood Country Club on August 12, firing a 14-under-par 57 during a round with family at the historic Westchester County club.
For Miller, the record came on a course that has been part of his life for decades. His father, Bob Miller, has served as Knollwood’s longtime golf professional, making Michael’s record-setting round as much a family milestone as a golf achievement.
Michael opened with a 30 on Knollwood’s par-36 front nine before playing the back nine in 27, including a stretch of exceptional scoring that resulted in the new 18-hole course record.
“Michael has played golf at an extraordinary level for a long time, but to see him put together a round like this at Knollwood is something special for everyone who knows the Miller family,” said Chris Thomas, General Manager of Knollwood Country Club. “Bob has been part of this Club for 35 years, and Michael’s history here goes back to childhood. A 57 is an incredible achievement anywhere. Doing it here, with his family alongside him, makes this record part of Knollwood’s history in a very personal way.”
Miller is currently competing on the Korn Ferry Tour as he pursues PGA TOUR status. A native of Mount Kisco, New York, he has made 74 career starts on the Korn Ferry Tour. His amateur career included victories at the 2011 Metropolitan Amateur and the 2012 USGA Men’s State Team Individual Championship.
Founded in 1894, Knollwood Country Club is home to one of Westchester County’s most historic golf courses. The original course was designed by Lawrence Van Etten, with A.W. Tillinghast, Seth Raynor and Charles Banks contributing to the design of the course played today. It is the oldest private golf course in the same location in the United States and includes a stunning par three 19th hole added to break ties or settle up.
Miller’s 57 establishes a new benchmark on a golf course that has challenged generations of Knollwood Members and accomplished players for more than a century.
