Stafford, Va.– The Middle Atlantic Section of the PGA of America (MAPGA) today announced the hiring of Army Veteran Tony Kovacic as the Association’s Director of Business Affairs.
A resident of Fairfax, Va., where he lives with his wife Marlene, their daughter Bria and son Brayden, Kovacic will oversee partnerships and sponsorships centered on enhancing support for MAPGA Members, as well as youth and player development programming, and the Association’s charitable foundation, PGA REACH Middle Atlantic, whose mission is to positively impact the lives of youth, military, and diverse populations through the game of golf.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Kovacic joined the U.S. Army as an Intelligence Analyst after graduating high school and served for 7 years, before becoming a defense contractor for another 14 years. After two decades of working for the government, and backed by a Business Management & Administration degree from St. Leo University in Florida, he transitioned to a more business-focused career in the private sector, joining Catalina Marketing, out of St. Petersburg, Fla., as a Senior Program Manager and Commercialization Manager.
During this time, Kovacic fell in love with the game of golf and eventually decided to combine this passion with his military and business backgrounds and focus on a career in the golf industry. This led to Kovacic joining the team at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md., before ultimately landing his new role with the MAPGA.
“Tony is a champion of the game and business of golf, and we are excited to have him join our team as Director of Business Affairs” said Jon Guhl, Executive Director, Middle Atlantic PGA. “His experience in business will help us a grow and foster new partnerships for the Association, while his military background will be a tremendous asset in our continued mission to improve the lives of Veterans through the amazing PGA HOPE program.”
