February 18, 2023

The Publisher/Editor of ASIAN GOLF, Mike Sebastian has announced his retirement. With his retirement Sebastian has brought the curtain down on all the products and services offered by the Asia Pacific Golf Group.

This includes the flagship, ASIAN GOLF, the Asia Pacific Golf Summit, the Asian Golf Awards and Asia’s Most Powerful People In Golf.

ASIAN GOLF has ceased publication after 23 years during which time Sebastian built it into the top golf publication in the Asia Pacific with a global distribution of over 130,000 and more than 117,000 Facebook followers. The Asia Pacific Golf Summit, considered one of the best conferences on the business of golf in the world, successfully witnessed 15 stagings in the series and the Asian Golf Awards, stands on its own as “The Oscars” of the golf industry in the Asia Pacific.

When asked why he was retiring, Sebastian, 77, replied: “When the man in the white cloak tells you to slow down, that was my cue to gear down, take the foot off the pedal and ride out into the sunset!”

“Thank you for all of your contributions to Asia and Golf over the years — you are a true Icon!” was how David Abeles, the President and CEO of TAYLORMADE Golf reacted.

“This is a big surprise and a huge blow to the golf industry in Asia,” was Steven Thielke, General Manager of the Singapore Island Country Club reacted.

Andy Johnston, General Manager of the Sentosa Golf Club, the top golf club in the Asia Pacific said, “You have moved the needle in golf in Asia and the awareness of the great things that is and has been happening. It will leave a big hole that will need to be filled.”

James Prusa, an internationally recognised authority on golf agronomy reacted from Montana in the USA with this statement: “Frankly, the golf industry (and civilization itself) in Asia owes you great gratitude and respect.”

What’s in store for retirement? “After more than 50 years in journalism, broadcasting, including more than ten years with IBM and TIME Magazine, I am just going to enjoy my surroundings with my wife, family and my toy poodle and stay healthy!”

Adios Mike!
