The Country Club at Mirasol’s Foundation Donates More Than $200,000 To Local Charities
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Florida — The Mirasol Foundation didn’t just honor two dozen nonprofit and civic organizations for contributions to their local communities, it helped them where they needed it most. Twenty-four Palm Beach County nonprofit organizations received financial grants totaling more than $200,000 from the foundation during a recent awards ceremony at the Mirasol clubhouse.
“This is the best day of the year for me, because we get to literally make everything we work for all year come true,” Mirasol Foundation President Kathy Savarese said. “To know that we’re supporting the homeless, that we’re supporting veterans, we’re supporting the assistance dogs, we’re supporting teens and mothers, is great … It means the world to me.”
In the Fall of 2014, Savarese started a Community Service Club inside Mirasol that became part of The Mirasol Foundation when it was established in 2016 by the Mirasol Community Association Board. In that first year, 2016, The Mirasol Foundation awarded $120,000 in financial grants to 19 nonprofit agencies.
“We started with events inside the gates, then we started moving to events outside the gates,” Savarese said. “Habitat for Humanity. The Food Bank. We went to Riviera Beach to deliver clothes.
“When we first started, we had about a 20 percent involvement rate (within Mirasol.) Now it’s more than 70 percent. People want to be involved and they have great ideas.”
Savarese said the foundation’s gifts and grants committee evaluated more than 60 grant applications this year before choosing the 24 recipients.
“It’s hard,” she said. “We have very strict criteria on our website on what our vision is and what we’re trying to accomplish.”
