On a wind-swept afternoon in Memphis, Ancer showed steely determination, using his Miura TC-201 irons to outlast both Hideki Matsuyama and Sam Burns in a tightly contested playoff
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Miura Golf is pleased to congratulate brand ambassador Abraham Ancer on his first PGA Tour victory at the prestigious World Golf Championship – FedEx St. Jude Invitational. On the heels of an impressive showing representing Mexico in the Tokyo Olympic Games, Ancer persevered through strong winds at TPC Southwind in Memphis for a one-stroke playoff win over Hideki Matsuyama and Sam Burns.
A pinpoint approach shot on the second playoff hole led to a birdie and the victory. Ancer has been playing Miura irons since 2017 and currently has TC-201 irons in his bag. In February 2019, he became the company’s first brand ambassador.
With the breakthrough performance, Ancer became just the fourth player from Mexico to win on the PGA Tour and the second this season following Olympic teammate Carlos Ortiz, who won the Vivint Houston Open.
“With Abraham’s talent, we all knew it was just a matter of time before he would secure a special victory like this,” said Hoyt McGarity, President of 8AM Golf. “The sky is the limit for him, and we’re pleased that Miura continues to be a part of his success.”
Ancer’s ascension on the PGA Tour has been steadily impressive and does not come as a surprise to knowledgeable observers. After an impressive showing for the 2019 International Presidents Cup Team, Ancer began to compile several noteworthy runner-up finishes and this season notched fourth place at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, a tie for fifth at the American Express, fifth at the Valspar Championship, second at the Wells Fargo Championship and fourth at the Travelers Championship.
As one of the most prominent Mexican nationals on tour, his involvement in growing the game in his home country includes a partnership with Dead Solid Perfect (DSP) Golf Mexico, the official distributor of Miura Golf in Mexico.
