Refined forged irons were in development for five years and represent the most ambitious precision undertaking in the company’s history
SCOTTSDALE, AZ – After a lifetime spent carefully honing his custom approach to the creation of forged irons, Katsuhiro Miura is proud to introduce the newest member of the Miura Golf lineup: the KM 700 iron.
With an eye towards preserving the legacy of his brand, Miura-san has imbued the next generation of Miura Craftsmen with his exacting standards and wisdom. The result of this collaborative effort has yielded the new KM 700, designed to deliver the clubhead to square at impact. Miura’s revolutionary new design is made possible through the company’s proprietary manufacturing techniques, in concert with the refined grinding expertise of the dedicated Miura team.
For more than 65 years, Katsuhiro Miura has been driven not by market trends or sales targets, but by vision and inspiration. The KM 700 represents the crowning achievement of his celebrated career, and the latest example of Miura Golf’s never-ending pursuit of perfection.
The five-year journey that led to the creation of the KM 700 involved Miura-san’s mentoring of future generations of Miura Craftsmen. A suggestion by one of his proteges, in fact, contributed to the innovative design of these irons. While searching for optimum weight distribution, numerous iterations of the head were designed until the result of a playable club for golfers of all levels was achieved. This achievement is signified by Miura-san’s stamp of approval, the red hanko stamp, on the back cavity of every iron.
“Katsuhiro Miura’s life and career is an inspiration,” said Bill Holowaty, COO, Miura Golf. “The KM 700 is the culmination of his rigorous approach to craftsmanship, an approach that has been diligently passed down to the entire team of Miura craftsmen who now proudly take up his mantle of pride and precision.”
The beauty of the KM 700s design lies in the grinding and polishing skills of Miura craftsmen, but also in our proprietary “third-strike” manufacturing process, which allows the structure of the clubhead to be subtly altered and manipulated for the perfect shape. Not only is the grain structure of the steel tightened, but the distribution and density optimized in each and every clubhead.
A key component of the KM 700’s design is the toe-cut grind visible on the sole. Optimized camber and precise bounce promote the best ball-on-club-face contact regardless of the lie or turf conditions. This unique and innovative sole delivers a stable head, optimized impact loft and unparalleled turf interaction.
The KM 700’s clubhead also features a revolutionary hosel and heel design, which enabled Miura to move the center of gravity 3mm closer to the toe. This creates a larger sweet spot—similar to what one might find in a wood. The result? Off-center hits are straighter and farther.
“We know of no other forging process able to achieve this level of precision and consistency,” Holowaty added, “and no factory has ever attempted this level of precision. It is a fitting tribute to the legacy of Katsuhiro Miura.”
