CASA VERDE GOLF RENOVATES MOFFETT FIELD PRACTICE RANGE
Improvements at Silicon Valley practice facility sure to provide uptick in golf activity
Casa Verde Golf, in conjunction with The Golf Club at Moffett Field and OB Sports Golf Management, recently completed a comprehensive rebuild of the facility’s Practice Range. Situated on the Moffett Field Navy Base in Mountain View, Calif., more than 6,000 cubic yards of material were imported for the project, which took just over two months to complete and was re-opened to the public in August of 2018.
“We were certain that this endeavor would add instant value to the Club,” said Jeff Schwinkendorf, Vice President of Casa Verde Golf. “Ownership agreed and was swift in its decision to undertake the work.”

Seven target greens were created in line with direction offered from local golf course architect David Ginkel of Ginkel Design. The finished product has given patrons of the Club an option to fine-tune their respective golf games during practice sessions, or put in a proper warm-up ahead of their round.
Adding complexity to the project were the environmental sensitivities existing on the site. Contaminated groundwater had to be avoided and the presence of multiple protected animal species, such as burrowing owls and turtles, were to remain protected throughout. In addition, The Golf Club at Moffett Field is located immediately adjacent to a federal air field, which posed many challenges from the standpoint of general dust control and airborne migration of any material generated from construction activities. Rigorous health and safety measures were required to be implemented throughout every step of construction.
“This was truly a collaborative effort with our staff being joined by the Club’s General Manager, Gary Pearce, and Golf Course Superintendent, Matt Sanders, to make certain the work being implemented in the field mirrored everyone’s desired look and feel,” said Schwinkendorf.
