Swing City, a new generation, state-of-the-art golf and entertainment venue in Norwest, Sydney, developed by Mulpha Australia in partnership with golf operator Avid Sports, was officially opened today by the Mayor of the Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi, and CEO of Golf Australia James Sutherland.
Swing City comprises a 40-bay range with individual hospitality seating, supported by state-of-the-art ball tracking and gaming technology, a licensed restaurant, undercover and outdoor alfresco dining, corporate function facilities, 18-hole mini-golf, and other amusements.
It’s designed for a broad audience, ranging from beginner to serious golfers, corporate, family and social groups.
Swing City is the first golf driving range in Australia to offer the Inrange ball tracking technology which provides a completely multi-dimensional golf experience.
Combining radar tracking with algorithms, the technology allows patrons to accurately record the full flight of their shot on a shorter than normal range. The ball tracking technology allows players to not only improve their game, but also to compete in a range of challenges, including games, longest drive, nearest the pins and virtual play on many of the world’s most famous golf courses.
The truly immersive experience will appeal equally to serious practice players wanting detailed shot analysis, training tips and match play simulation; someone holding a club for the first time; or family and friends having a fun night out using the multiple game-play options.
Mulpha CEO, Greg Shaw said: “Swing City is a game-changer, for golf range-play, and for sporting and hospitality facilities in Norwest and the broader Hills district. Mulpha has combined our specialist operating experience in Hospitality, Entertainment and Leisure with our proven track record in development to create a truly unique concept.
“It offers a broad range of golf, leisure and entertainment facilities in a family-friendly environment to meet the growing demand in the area while making golf fun, easy and accessible for a broad range of players.
“As the Master Developer of Norwest, Mulpha is excited to bring this leading-edge entertainment facility to support the rapidly growing Norwest residential and corporate community while creating new employment opportunities in the area.”
The Norwest venue is the first of a number of Swing City venues planned across Australia.
Mulpha has partnered with Golf Australia to create a $60 million Play Golf Fund to facilitate development of additional venues on both public and private sites.
Under this structure. Mulpha will provide landowners with a complete turnkey solution to deliver the capital, planning and development required and ongoing management under long term leases to revitalise existing ranges, golf courses, public recreational facilities and private land.
“We also see many opportunities to work with commercial landowners to activate retail and office precincts,” Mr Shaw said.
Importantly the Swing City concept will appeal to all ages and demographics and vastly broaden the use and community benefit of public facilities that have often been under-utilised or utilised by only a small segment of the community.
“Discussions are currently underway with a number of local councils, golf courses and private landowners for future Swing City sites,” he said.
James Sutherland, CEO of Golf Australia said: “Swing City is a fantastic addition to the Sydney golf scene. It’s a state-of-the-art golf entertainment facility in the north-west that offers something special for golfers of all ages and abilities.
“Across the country, we continue to see tremendous growth in golf participation – on and off the course. Full credit to Mulpha for responding to golf’s increasing popularity and investing in a brilliant facility that includes a driving range, a mini golf course, and other great entertainment options.
“Congratulations to Greg and the team from Mulpha on the opening of Swing City. The facility will make a huge impact – serving existing golfers in the region and providing great experiences for newcomers to the game.”
Dr Peter Gangemi, Mayor of The Hills Shire said: “As our community continues to grow, the need for enhanced recreational opportunities becomes increasingly important.
“It’s fantastic to have a facility that caters to both passionate golfers and families and individuals looking for entertainment, especially with the rise in golf participation.
“I extend my congratulations to all those involved in making this project a reality, and I eagerly anticipate Swing City becoming a vibrant entertainment hub for our community in the years to come.”
James Cooper, Managing Director of Avid Sports, said: “We are proud to be the first to bring the Inrange® experience to Australian shores. Their industry leading technology perfectly matches our ambitions – to make practice more rewarding and bring families and friends together in a golf orientated entertainment venue.”
