NATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR ACCESSIBLE GOLF PARTNERS WITH ACCESSIBE TO BRING GOLF TO MORE INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES

November 14, 2022

Charleston, SC: The National Alliance for Accessible Golf (the Alliance) is pleased to announce a new partnership with accessiBe that will support the Alliance mission of “increasing participation of individuals with disabilities in the game of golf.”

The Alliance and accessiBe share a vision of facilitating welcoming environments at golf facilities that improve access and foster inclusion for individuals with disabilities in the game of golf. An accessible website is often the first place a new or existing golfer visits to learn about a golf course and instructional programs that may be offered. By providing a website that is usable by individuals with disabilities, golf courses can send an immediate message that all golfers are welcomed and invited.

accessiBe’s vision “… is to make the internet accessible so that everyone, with and without disabilities, can enjoy what it has to offer. Hundreds of millions of websites are inaccessible and keep people with disabilities disconnected. It’s time to change that.”

Based on a 2018 study by the National Golf Foundation, there are more than 14 million individuals with disabilities who identified themselves as interested in golf programs for the disabled. Of those only 600,000 reported current engagement in golf activities. A larger group, more than 6 million, reported they had played golf in the past but, due to their disability, no longer participate.

As Alliance Executive Director Dave Barton, PGA states, “Let’s work to get some of those 6 million back and attract some new golfers. We use accessiBe and the widget installation was remarkably simple. Beyond being the right thing to do and the ease of installation, it’s priced very affordably. By choosing to make your website accessible, you are choosing to welcome all golfers to play at your facility. This partnership also directly contributes to our mission as accessiBe will donate proceeds of each sale to the Alliance facilitating grant distributions and our support to the golf industry as an education and resource center.”

The accessiBe widget uses artificial intelligence to work within your existing website to ensure compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines – WCAG 2.1 at the AA Level, in accordance with US Section 508 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as well as all other global legislations for web accessibility. This is the recognized standard of compliance under the ADA for golf courses available to the public and private clubs that meet the criteria to be classified as a public accommodation by the ADA due to the amount and or/periodicity of permitted public access.
