FIRST TEE – SARASOTA/MANATEE TO PLAY HOST TO NATIONAL JUNIORS LEFT-HANDED CHAMPIONSHIP

Sarasota, FL  – First Tee – Sarasota/Manatee (FTSM) — an organization founded in 2000 with the primary goal of impacting the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf – announces it will team with the National Association of Left-handed Golfers to play host to their inaugural National Juniors Left-handed Championship, December 27 – 29, 2021.

The National Association of Left-handed Golfers (NALG) was established in 1936 with their inaugural National Left-handed Championship held at Norwood Hills Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri. One hundred and forty-seven players from 24 states participated. Quite a feat during the midst of the Great Depression.

The inaugural National Juniors Left-handed Championship will take place December 27 – 29, 2021 at Palm-Aire Country Club in Sarasota, Florida. Registration opens September 1 and continues to December 1 or the first 100 players registered and paid. The Championship is open to Boys and Girls, ages 10 – 18, and will be played in age divisions.

NALG President, Sid Miner explains, “The National Association of Left-handed Golfers has always strived to grow the game of golf. Our commitment continues with the inaugural National Juniors Left-handed Championship being played in Sarasota, FL. NALG is excited to engage junior left-handed players and provide a national championship to showcase their talents.”

Andy Mears, Development Director for First Tee – Sarasota/Manatee adds, “First Tee is about building game-changers. To play host to this wonderful inaugural national junior championship is exactly what First Tee is all about…bringing young people together and providing the opportunity to learn and compete.”

First Tee – Sarasota/Manatee currently serves area youth at its golf course locations and in-school program, as well as, LPGA/USGA Girls Golf of Sarasota/Manatee, Greater Sarasota Junior Golf Association, and PGA Jr. League. FTSM is supported by generous donations from corporate partners, foundation grants, and individual donors.
