Pacific Women’s Golf Association and Women’s Golf Association of Northern California To Join Northern California Golf Association
PEBBLE BEACH (June 25, 2019)— The Northern California golf region has become stronger as a result of a June 24 vote that approved the unification of the Pacific Women’s Golf Association (PWGA), the Women’s Golf Association of Northern California (WGANC) and the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA).
Set to become officially effective on Jan. 1, 2020, the unification of PWGA, WGANC and NCGA will provide greater advocacy, resources, programming and services for all female golfers and clubs in the region. NCGA, combined with PWGA and WGANC, will serve as the designated Allied Golf Association for the Northern California region.
Under the unification, NCGA will continue to support historical PWGA and WGANC tournaments and events. A newly created NCGA Women’s Golf Committee, including representatives of each of the three associations, will support and promote both current and future programming for women.
PWGA, WGANC and NCGA all strive to serve the needs of the Northern California golf community. Between the three associations is nearly 300 years of combined service to the region. NCGA currently serves over 180,000 members.
“This is a historic time for golf in Northern California. Thanks to the cooperation and forward thinking of the leadership of the Pacific Women’s Golf Association, the Women’s Golf Association of Northern California and the NCGA’s collaboration team members, we will now be working together for all golfers in Northern California,” NCGA President Gail Rogers said. “We are dedicated both to preserving the traditional tournaments of our public and private course players and to creating new golf tournaments and events that provide opportunities for individuals currently underserved in our programing such as working women and those new to the game.”
“At this time, we have a coordinated staff and an expanded pool of volunteers who are devoting themselves to providing the best possible golf experiences for women, men, and juniors. We are looking forward with great anticipation to this, the next chapter of Northern California golf,” WGANC President Lynda Donahue said. “This joint effort should, indeed, increase our overall leadership and capacity.”
“Pacific Women’s Golf Association is pleased to be joining forces with NCGA and WGANC to provide even better golf opportunities for everyone,” PWGA President Sue Kort said. “For many years, each of our organizations has served our respective communities very well. By combining our resources, we will expand our capabilities even further.”
Under the vote, the NCGA will incorporate PWGA’s 189 clubs and 7,000 members, as well as the 102 clubs and 9,400 members of WGANC.
