Nexbelt captures a win on the PGA Tour at the Farmers Insurance Open
(RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA) – Nexbelt®, The Belt With No Holes, captured another victory on the PGA Tour this past weekend at the Farmers Insurance Open, held at Torrey Pines GC in San Diego, CA.
On Sunday, after more than a decade of trying and two runner-up finishes at Torrey Pines, the Aussie captured the fifth PGA Tour victory of his career. And it was an impressive one at that! Although he was well back in the pack through 54 holes, he quickly established himself as the man to beat, making seven birdies over the first 13 holes. His 7-under 65 matched the low final round by a Farmers Insurance Open champion since Torrey Pines underwent its first U.S. Open renovation in 2001.
Ironically, the win came on Australia Day, the country’s national holiday. It also came during a difficult time back home, as Australia continues to battle wildfires.
“Pretty amazing, particularly all the problems that have been happening back in Australia with the fires and people losing their lives, firefighters. Just devastating really,” said the winner. “If this can bring them a little bit of joy, that’s a big win for me personally and then for them as well.”
He led the field in Strokes Gained: Putting for the week, gaining +8.031 strokes for the tournament. His caddie, who has been with him his entire tour career and grew up in the same small town, called it the best putting performance he’s ever seen.
