(RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA) – Nexbelt® Tour Ambassador, John Catlin, birdied three of his last four holes on Sunday to close with a 6-under 64 and capture a two-shot victory in the Irish Open, his second in three weeks on the European Tour.
With this latest victory, Catlin, a 29-year-old American, will move into the Top 100 in the World for the first time in his career.
Catlin won earlier this month at Valderrama and tied for eighth the following week at the Portugal Masters. With two victories, he joins Sam Horsfield and Rasmus Hojgaard as the only two-time winners on the European Tour this season. Catlin, who played college golf at New Mexico, moves to No. 14 in the Race to Dubai.
John Catlin is the first American to win the Irish Open since Hubert Green in 1977.
“It’s pretty hard to describe. So many years of hard work have gone into this moment. It was my goal to win again at the start of this week, to have accomplished it is something truly, truly special,” said Catlin. “You never know if you’re going to win or not, to get that monkey off my back at Valderrama really freed me up today to know I could do it. Be able to look myself in the mirror and tell myself that I’ve been here before and I can do it again.”
