Orlando, FL — The National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA) is pleased to announce its new 2026-2028 Board Officers and Directors. The new board was introduced at NGCOA’s annual business meeting during Golf Business Conference 2026.
Whitey O’Malley from Saddleback Golf Club in Firestone, CO is the association’s new president, taking over from Cathy Harbin, PGA/LPGA from Pine Ridge Golf Course in Paris, TX. David Frem from Cyprian Keyes Golf Club in Boylston, MA is the new vice president. Gaylord Schaap from Northwood Golf Club in Monte Rio, CA remains secretary and Jeff Hoag from Scott Lake Country Club in Comstock Park, MI remains treasurer.
“I have known Whitey for over twenty years and am thrilled he is taking the helm at the association,” says Jay Karen, CEO of NGCOA. “Whitey is a creative and successful business owner, and he has great intuition and a depth of experience that make him fully prepared for this leadership role. It’s going to be a fun and productive two years.”
During Whitey O’Malley’s early career as an airline pilot, he and his family built a golf course in Wisconsin which opened in 1993. He then built Saddleback Golf Club in Firestone, Colorado which opened in 2001. Because of water’s importance in Colorado, O’Malley is also the president of The New Coal Ridge Ditch and sits on two other water boards. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin.
“I’m looking forward to guiding the association on its continued journey to grow membership and better represent golf facility leadership,” said O’Malley. “The business of golf has come a long way, and we will keep that momentum going with legislative support, and by working closely with allied associations.”
After graduating from Dartmouth College and a career in IT consulting, David Frem joined his family in developing Cyprian Keyes Golf Club in Boylston, MA, where he currently serves as both owner and General Manager. Frem has served on the board of the New England Golf Course Owners Association since 2002 and held the position of President for 11 of those years. He is also on the board of Mass Golf.
