NIPPON SHAFT WINS FARMERS INSURANCE OPEN at TORREY PINES

Nippon Shaft’s MODUS³ series won its fifth tournament of the season Sunday when the 36-year-old Australian came from four shots behind to vault past the leaders and into the winner’s circle at the Farmers Insurance Open in La Jolla, California.

The champion played Nippon Shaft’s N.S.PRO MODUS³ Tour 130 X-flex steel shafts in both his irons and his wedges and shot a 7-under par 65 in the final round to win by a stroke. His victory was worth $1.35 million.

“We are very excited to extend our congratulations to the tournament champion, who has been playing Nippon Shaft products for many years,” said Hiro Fukuda, marketing executive for Nippon Shaft. “It is very special to have a winner who is the model of calm and cool throughout the most challenging parts of the tournament.”

In the final round the 6-foot-2 Aussie plundered the front nine with five birdies for an out-going 31 and came in in 34 with three birdies and bogey on the more difficult back nine. For the week, his rounds were 68-72-68-65—273. A six-foot birdie putt on the final hole assured he would avoid a playoff.

The week prior, Nippon Shaft players were victorious at the American Express in La Quinta, California on the PGA Tour and at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai in Hawaii.

More than 200 players on the PGA Tour, European Tour and Korn Ferry Tour use Nippon Shaft’s MODUS³ series steel shafts to help gain their desired distance, accuracy and trajectory.

Nippon Shaft products are available globally either as stock or custom shafts in many of the world’s top iron brands.  Details of these can be found at www.nipponshaft.com

Based in Yokohama, Japan, Nippon Shaft is the No. 1-selling steel shaft in Asia.  Nippon Shaft is a privately-held subsidiary of NHK Spring Co. LTD, a Japanese automobile parts manufacturer.  Nippon Shaft’s North American headquarters is in Carlsbad.
