CARLSBAD, Calif. – Two of the world’s top golfers – one man and one woman – used Nippon Shaft steel shafts to earn victories Sunday (Jan. 23) on the PGA Tour Champions and LPGA Tours.
In the PGA Tour Champions’ first event of the 2022 season, the 58-year-old pony-tailed, cigar-smoking Spaniard used Nippon Shaft’s N.S.PRO MODUS³ Tour 105 S-flex steel shafts in his irons and wedges to win the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai Golf Club in Hawaii. The victory came on the second hole of a sudden death playoff after the winner birdied the final hole in regulation to get in to the playoff. He shot 17-under par over 54 holes with rounds of 67-66-66—199 and earned $340,000. It was his 11th victory on PGA Tour Champions and was the 261st win on tours worldwide for Nippon Shaft’s MODUS Series of steel shafts.
At the LPGA’s first event of its season, a 29-year-old American won the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions in Orlando by three shots, using Nippon Shaft N.S. PRO 950GH steel shafts in her irons and wedges. The former major champion shot 16-under par with rounds of 68-67-69-68—272 on a cool, blustery day at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club to secure her sixth LPGA title and a winner’s check of $225,000.
Over the years, the lightweight 950GH shafts have been used hundreds of times by professional tour winners, especially on the LPGA Tour.
“Nippon Shaft congratulates the winners of the Mitsubishi Electric and the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions,” said Hiro Fukuda, sales and marketing for Nippon Shaft. “We are pleased that both players trust Nippon Shaft products and that they feel they can rely on them to compete at golf’s highest levels.”
More than 200 players on the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, European Tour and Korn Ferry Tour use Nippon Shaft’s MODUS³ series steel shafts to help gain their desired distance, accuracy, and trajectory.
