(ORLANDO, Fla.) – On Course Foundation has placed eight wounded Service members to work at the 2022 PNC Championship, December 15-18 at Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Orlando, Grande Lakes.
In coordination with longtime On Course Foundation partner Marriott Vacations Worldwide Corporation, the active and retired military veterans will partake in a wide array of tournament operations and agronomic experiences. Their assignments align with On Course Foundation’s mission to use golf as a vehicle for physical and mental recovery, and harvest newfound confidence into careers in golf.
The PNC Championship assignments follow On Course Foundation members working at the PGA TOUR’s Charles Schwab Challenge, The Masters, the Open Championship and other professional tournaments in 2022.
“IMG and all involved with the tournament appreciate the sacrifices On Course Foundation members make to protect our freedoms,” says Teo Soderman, PNC Championship Tournament Director. “On-the-job training provides meaningful experiences toward employment in the golf industry.”
“It’s a foot in the door for service members to demonstrate their unparalleled work ethic, dedication and commitment to the sport and business of golf,” says Shauna Snyder, a 35-year military veteran who directs employment placement for On Course Foundation.
The PNC Championship is one of golf’s most unique events in featuring 20 major champions team with a family member to play the game they love together. This year’s field includes Tiger Woods and son Charlie, Annika Sorenstam and son Will, Jordan Spieth and dad Shawn, and Gary Player and grandson Jordan.
Thousands of On Course Foundation members benefit from the organization’s golf education and career services. Exhibiting profound changes of character, they are placed in part- and full-time jobs with Topgolf Callaway Brands, TaylorMade, Invited, Marriott Golf, TPC Network and other golf companies, golf courses, clubs and resorts. Members also learn playing skills with many achieving low, single-digit handicaps and qualifying for the annual Simpson Cup, On Course Foundation’s pinnacle vent pitting U.K. and U.S. teams in Ryder Cup-style matches.
A poignant video about On Course Foundation and the Simpson Cup, sponsored by Charles Schwab, is here. Service members’ stories involve lost legs and arms, dozens of life-saving surgeries per member, and hidden wounds like post-traumatic stress disorder, complicating their transitions from active duty to civilian life.
On Course Foundation sponsors include Apollo Global Management, Barclays, Charles Schwab, CSX, J.P. Morgan, KPMG, Marriott Vacations Worldwide, Topgolf Callaway Brands, Clubessential and Summit Golf Brands. Countless individual donors also salute the military, the game of golf and vastly improving lives which otherwise would have spiraled downward.
