ORLANDO, Fla. – On Course Foundation has placed 12 injured Service members to work at the PGA TOUR’s 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge, May 23-29 at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
The active and retired veterans will partake in a wide array of tournament operations and agronomic jobs. Their assignments align with On Course Foundation’s mission to use golf as a vehicle for physical and mental recovery, and harvest newfound confidence into careers in golf.
To further exposure to the golf business, On Course Foundation placed 10 Service members in jobs at the 2022 Masters Tournament and others will help produce the Royal and Ancient’s 150th Open Championship, July 20-27 at St. Andrews.
“Our tournament and sponsors are all about giving back to communities,” says Michael Tothe, Tournament Director of The Charles Schwab Challenge. “To better the lives of those who sacrifice their lives for our freedom through on-the-job training is the least we can do, especially considering May is Military Appreciation Month and our event is Memorial Day weekend.”
Jobs at the Charles Schwab Challenge will augment Service members’ resumes and lead to full-time employment in the golf industry.
“It’s a foot in the door for service members to demonstrate their unparalleled work ethic, dedication and commitment to the sport and business of golf,” says Shauna Snyder, a 35-year military veteran who directs employment placement for On Course Foundation.
Thousands of On Course Foundation members have benefitted from the organization’s golf education and career services. Exhibiting profound changes of character, they are placed in full-time jobs with Callaway, ClubCorp, Marriott Vacations, TaylorMade, Topgolf, TPC Network and other golf companies, golf courses, clubs and resorts. Members also learn playing skills with many achieving low, single-digit handicaps and qualifying for the annual Simpson Cup where U.K. and U.S. teams square off in Ryder Cup-style matches.
A poignant video about On Course Foundation and the Simpson Cup, sponsored by Charles Schwab, is here. Service members’ stories involve lost legs and arms, dozens of life-saving surgeries per member, and hidden wound like post-traumatic stress disorder, complicating their transitions from active duty to civilian life.
Earlier this month, On Course Foundation kicked off its annual fundraising campaign. Corporate and individual contributions of financial and business resources are earmarked to expand On Course Foundation’s impact in new regional markets across America. The organization currently conducts free programs in 15 states which help injured Service members develop golf business and playing skills.
Sponsors include Apollo Wealth Management, Barclays, Charles Schwab, CSX, J.P. Morgan, KPMG, Callaway, Clubessential and Summit Golf Brands. Countless individual donors also salute the military, the game of golf and vastly improving lives which otherwise would have spiraled downward.
