Brentwood, Tenn., – Softspikes® walked away with a clean sweep of the 4 Major Championship in 2024 at The Open on Sunday as the winner, wearing PINS ThinTech spikes in his adidas Tour 360 shoes, shot a final round 6-under-par round of 65 to claim The Claret Jug and a second Major title of the year.
Starting the final round one shot off the lead at -3, the Californian was at his imperious best on Sunday, making birdies on the 6th and 7th to make the turn in 2 under-par. He then turned up the dial even more on the back 9 with three birdies in a row on the 11th, 12th & 13th holes to put him firmly at the top of the leaderboard. A further birdie on the 16th all but wrapped up the title, leaving him to enjoy the walk down the 72nd hole safe in the knowledge he was about to be crowned the Champion Golfer of the Year.
The win at The Open means, the now two-time major champion, becomes the 27th PGA Tour winner to do so wearing spikes in the last 31 PGA Tour events. In addition, 80% of the field at Royal Troon put their trust in Softspikes as they competed over the extremely challenging Ayrshire layout.
“The final round at The Open was an absolutely thrilling spectacle and we are delighted that the winner put on such an incredible performance, wearing replaceable spike, to not only capture his second Major, but also round out a clean sweep of the 4 Major in 2024 by players choosing to compete in Softspikes,” commented Joe Henderson, President, Softspikes.
Tour players change grips and traction regularly based on course conditions, but amateur golfers rarely think about the impact wearing spikes has on consistency and distance. To achieve optimal performance benefits, golfers should be switching up their spikes every 15 rounds.
