Oahu, Hawaii – Pearl Country Club in Aiea, Hawaii on the island of Oahu, recently named Cyd Okino as the club’s new head golf professional. Okino, a Honolulu native who attended Punahou High School and enjoyed a celebrated junior golf career, will lead all golf operations for the public course that overlooks Pearl Harbor.
Okino served as a PGA apprentice assistant golf professional at Pearl Country Club since November 2020, before moving into the head golf professional position in late December 2021. One of Hawaii’s most decorated junior golfers of all time, Okino is also one of the youngest golfers to ever play in the US Women’s Open (2008) at age 14. She played collegiate golf at University of Washington, earning Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention her senior year, and played professionally on the Step Up Tour in Japan.
Okino’s father, Cyrus, introduced her to golf at age six through his best friend and heralded junior golf coach, Casey Nakama. Nakama has been Okino’s golf coach ever since that first practice session. Okino got into the golf business through Pearl Country Club General Manager Ed Kageyama, first coaching with him at Punahou High School, and currently at Hawaii Pacific University, where she serves as the assistant men’s and women’s golf coach.
“Having witnessed just about every stage of Cyd’s golf career, it’s a pleasure to now see her take the next step as a golf professional. Cyd has proven to be a valuable asset to Pearl Country Club.” said Kageyama.
Located on the gentle slopes of the Koolau mountain range, Pearl Country Club overlooks Pearl Harbor, the Arizona Memorial, the USS Missouri, and the Waianae Mountain Range to the west. The Club features an 18-hole, par 72, 6,787- yard golf course designed by Akira Sato. One of the finest courses on Oahu, Pearl Country Club has been in operation since 1967. The course is open to the public and is a short 20-minute drive from Waikiki.
