Hello golf stakeholders:
We now have 2 of golf’s “core tertile” months for rounds (4 consecutive months of May-Aug, the May-Jun stretch is ~25% of annual rounds for those keeping score) in the books and golf continues to hold its own vs. last year’s elevated base level. Our readers and followers know that this has been weather-aided success but a win’s a win and the bankers don’t care what “shade of green” it is.
Contributing Editor Stuart Lindsay has the lead this month and scours and compiles facts and figures across Pellucid’s data assets to assess how supply shape and development has changed in recent years and how the trend is beginning to show signs of change. While there is demand for increased supply, the economics of where and whether to build or buy-and-renovate make for interesting reading and study.
Publisher Jim K. looks at the mid-year performance of the Golf Operations sector (golf facilities and their suppliers/service providers) and reporting on the surprising strength through June using the small-sample Golf Market Research Center (GMRC) submissions as the “first look” at how we likely did. For extra credit, beyond just Rounds percent change, he provides the directional performance of the 10 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in the scorecard that GMRC participants see every month from weather-adjusted metrics (Utilization, Golf Revenue-per-Available-Round) as well as pricing and discounting performance vs. ’22. Where else are you going to find those types of facts?
See below for the headlines to each of our recurring sections from the regional June weather impact map to Comings & Goings (always entertaining commentary). Per above, we’ve already compiled the June rounds “preview”, courtesy of our GMRC subscribers, and it suggests that we’ll see rounds and revenue up and modestly beating the weather gain which will translate to anticipated gains in both Utilization and RevpAR. If you want to know those numbers on a regular basis, you can either participate in GMRC (course operators) or sign up for a Publications Membership (everyone else).
