THE FUTURE OF CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENTS FOR 2021

March 8, 2021

Phoenix, AZ – 2020 was an interesting year and as you can imagine affected everyone hosting a Golf Tournament or Outing. Charity Golf Events were affected the most for two reasons:

  1. Awards Ceremonies were impossible because of social distancing.
  2. Sponsors were afraid to spend money because of the uncertainty of the future.

THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT – The good news is that golf is booming. Golfers want and need to get out doors. It seems like the only safe place to be. 2021 is looking to be the best year ever for Charity Golf Events. Why? Most events were cancelled last year and Non Profits still need money.

Golfers are ready to play, sponsors are ready to advertise and we are getting a handle of the rules and regulations that we must live with to host events with crowds and keeping people safe.

STATISTICS – In 2019 there were over 500,000 Golf Outings in the United States. The average event had 72 golfers and the average Net money raised by a Charity was $5000. In 2020 Charity Golf Outings came to a screeching halt. There were a few but not many. Many competitive and Corporate Outings continued but many were put on hold. In 2021 we believe that events will be at an all-time high. We predict over 600,000 Golf Outings, 90% will be charity outings.

GUIDELINES – It is clear that there are no rules for us to follow. Masks, 6’ distancing and no large crowds. We can work with these guidelines. Every state, city and golf course is different. Before proceeding with your event, understand the guidelines in your community and work within the rules.

SECRETS TO SUCCESS – The keys to success for all golf outings in 2021 are sponsors and golfers. Sponsors are the profit and you must offer them a Return on investment (ROI). Golfers will play in quality events, hosted at a great golf course and for a good cause but the main reason that a Golfer plays in these events is because his or her buddy asks them. So make sure that you have a well-connected volunteer committee that are willing to asks their contacts. 9 Volunteers recruiting four foursomes will fill up your field every time.

OTHER OPTIONS – For those organizations that are concerned with the current conditions, there are a few other options. Golfathons (Golf Marathons) are great options for raising money with golf. This format is golfers raising pledges per hole and playing as many holes of golf in one day as possible. This format raises big money and the awards ceremonies have a limited number of attendees. Virtual Golf Online – This is a fun unique idea that brings your golfers together online. Night Golf – this is another fun idea that brings golfers together at night playing 9 holes in the dark with glowing golf balls. Smaller setting.
