LAS VEGAS, NV – Mr. Tree, a division of Pro Turf International and the leading tree care company in the southern Nevada region, recently launched a new Plant Health Care (PHC) service for its growing list of customers.
The new PHC division assures customers that their plants are getting the proper nutrition needed for the extreme southwest environs.
“While many companies offer this type service, they tend to focus on the macro nutrients, using high salt and high nitrogen fertilizers that serve a very limited range,” said Joe Noriega, the certified arborist who oversees Mr. Tree for PTI. “At Mr. Tree we’ve created a special blend designed for southern Nevada soil. We’re not only using the macro nutrients, we’re also using the micro nutrients along with soil conditioners to make sure we get maximum upkeep for trees and plants.”
To make his point, Noriega compared the Mr. Tree system to human food consumption.
“It’s like the difference between a high calorie, fatty and sugary diet versus a well balanced meal using all the food groups,” he said. “The goal is to achieve actual health and not just a bunch of growth.”
Mr. Tree was part of a purchase by PTI in 2020, joining the Pro Turf Landscaping division. The company offers a full range of services to Home Owners Associations, commercial properties and individual property owners.
A big part of the Plant Health Care service is the Deep Root Feeding, a process in which the liquid fertilizer formula is sent directly to the roots of the plants through a fertilizer gun and spike that is inserted into the soil at the root zone. Excess runoff is absorbed through the surface.
“Fertilization is customized for each customer’s yard,” said Noriega. “We consider the species and the surrounding conditions, and then design a formula specific for each yard. Our formulation is mild enough that it won’t cause fertilizer burn. It can be applied to the foliage so plants can absorb it through their leaves. This also allows us to do a soil drench for irrigating right at the root and base of the plant.”
The challenging weather conditions in southern Nevada make this type application especially advantageous for sensitive plants and trees.
“Deep Root Feeding especially works well for delicate species that tend to struggle here in southern Nevada, like the Queen Palm, “ said Noriega. “Granular applications on the surface rarely have the effectiveness and don’t condition the soil the way our special blend does for trees and plants.”
