Poplar Grove Introduces 2020 Membership Offerings
(AMHERST, Va.) Poplar Grove Golf Club – Sam Snead’s final course design located in the beautiful rolling hills of central Virginia – unveils its newest membership offerings ahead of the 2019 holiday season.
For those that join before January 1, 2020, the following membership rates will be guaranteed for the next two years:
- Single membership: $150 per month ($195 after January 1, 2020)
- Couple membership: $175 per month ($245 after January 1, 2020)
- Family membership: $225 per month ($295 after January 1, 2020)
Building on its three membership tiers, Poplar Grove is also waiving initiation fees for the remainder of the 2019 calendar year.
Membership benefits at the club include unlimited greens fees, special guest rates, a complimentary range plan and practice facility use. Members also receive access to member only events, member lounges, dining facilities and other amenities currently under construction.
Poplar Grove’s $3 million Phase I renovation comprised of re-building bunkers, teeing grounds and green complexes, updating drainage, clearing trees and remodeling practice areas while adding brand new Tour Practice Titleist range balls. Poplar’s new fleet of 60 customized E-Z-GO golf carts provide a smooth ride for all guests.
The course restoration was led by Ed Carton, a Virginia native who learned under Tom Fazio, Michael Hurdzan, Gary Player and Raymond Floyd. Carton consulted closely with Snead when designing Poplar Grove and saw the project through to its finish in 2005, three years after “Slammin’ Sammy’s” passing. Poplar Grove, a Golf Digest “Best New Upscale Public Course” in 2005, is returning to its heyday under the close watch of Carton, the man who brought Snead’s blueprint to life.
The historic Manor House, Poplar Grove’s storied centerpiece, is also being restored as an event space. A 100-seat indoor-outdoor dining space, luxury bar, several member-exclusive areas and overnight accommodations are among the planned additions for Phase II of the project.
In addition, Poplar Grove announced in May the hiring of longtime PGA TOUR veteran Dick Mast as golf professional emeritus and director of instruction.
Located in Amherst, Virginia, Poplar Grove is 20 and 45 minutes from Lynchburg and Charlottesville, respectively. The surrounding Blue Ridge foothills are alive with breweries, distilleries and wineries, constituting the perfect getaway for couples and buddy groups.
